I was suddenly asked to write a little description, and in that instant I had no idea where to start – haha. So, I’ll just introduce myself. My Chinese name is Zhang Jian, and I’m from China; my English name is Milo. I studied Electronic Information Engineering at university, and after graduating in 2015 I landed a job in game development—a job I stuck with for about seven or eight years.
To be honest, I never really loved that job – or rather, it just wasn’t for me. So, at the start of 2023, I decided to leave and set off in search of my own direction. But in a competitive society, achieving the so-called success isn’t as simple as just working hard; there are far too many factors at play. In short, becoming wealthy isn’t entirely within one’s control. If we keep fixating on chasing things beyond our grasp, all we end up doing is draining ourselves.
I used to think that death was a long way off and that life would stretch on forever. But now it seems that time flies by so quickly that our lives feel astonishingly short. So, if life is so brief—just a few decades—what really is the meaning of living? For someone like me, born in China, is it all about scrambling to make money? Sure, we all need to earn a living—our bellies won’t fill themselves—but must our entire existence be defined by the relentless pursuit of money? Of course, if there’s a clear path ahead, you might run as fast as you can. However, the unchangeable fact is that in any society only a few will find that clear way; for most, a lifetime’s effort only leads to an ordinary life, and in places with little in the way of social welfare, it’s little more than a constant struggle.
So, carrying the question “How should one really live?” with me, I’ve decided to head abroad. I want to see how people in other countries live, experience their cultures, and learn how their systems—be it education, employment, healthcare, or pensions—work. That’s why I thought of trying work-for-accommodation: to experience the local way of life and customs with minimal expense. I also hope to set an example by showing that even someone with modest means can go out and explore the world. This is exactly why I’ve joined the Workaway platform.
Finally, a few words about my personality. I’m a pretty laid-back chap—responsible, always up for a laugh, and with an English level that’s perfectly adequate for everyday conversation. I love sports and I’m a tough, resilient sort, so I’m not one to shy away from hard, dirty work as long as it isn’t dangerous. I’m easy to get along with and naturally kind to others.
Before I knew it, I’d written a fair few words. Well, that’s probably enough for now—if I keep on, I’m sure the reader will lose patience, haha.
There’s no need to look any further; the person you’re after is right here…hahaha.Langues
