  • Description

    Greetings and Salutations!
I am a single traveler, mid 50's woman with a wide variety of work and volunteer experiences. Having been "bitten" by the travel bug early in life, I will soon be able to make my dream of traveling the entire world a reality!
I grew up in rural Maine on a tree farm/garden center/sheep farm. We had a small, ragtag, flock of sheep, two horses, chickens, dogs and cats. My lovely parents operated a garden center/tree nursery and gift shop so my siblings and I were well versed in all of these areas. We had to know how to ring up sales, work with customers, pot plants, know how to plant a tree or shrub correctly, use the proper (organic) fertilizer and so much more. Besides the garden center/tree work, we also had an enormous organic garden that provided our fruit and veg. Canning and freezing was a way of life in the mid to late summer and fall so we could have fresh produce in the winter.
I learned how to drive a tractor, operate a skid-steer, coax ancient stick shift vehicles into motion wield a chainsaw and put up fencing the animals couldn't escape from. Alas, the art of chopping wood has forever eluded me. :) Perhaps someone could finally teach me this skill? My father also was a professional landscaper and I often accompanied him on his many gigs.
When I became an adult, (at least in numerical years), I worked in a plethora of different fields. Besides raising a family on a 27 acre farm and picking up and moving then renovating a 1860's era house, I went to college for Travel education and was a travel agent for 4 years, nannied for several families, worked in a garden center in retail sales, was a baggage handler for US Airways, as well as being a rescue and foster carer for retired Greyhounds, Rottweilers and pregnant cats. 15 years on the board of a non-profit. ( John Sage Foundation.)
Currently, I operate an online Etsy shop for vintage, antique and restored items for the home, I make my own handcrafted soap and body products, design jewelry and have been a Superhost on Airbnb for 10 years.
My family and I had a small farm with goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, geese and ducks over the years so lots of experience there!
I am hoping to combine my love of travel, learning new skills and meeting new folks with the experiences offered on Workaway.
Looking forward to meeting you in future!
    Cheers!

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

40 years of gardening experience. Tree nursery work, landscaping, planting, pruning, overall maintenance. Farm work including running a tractor, skid steer, large riding mowers and chainsaw, plus shoveling lots of livestock poop. Small (hand) power tools experienced. I can run a log splitter, rototiller, orbital sander, staple gun and cordless drill . Experienced in farm animal care such as goats, chickens, pigs, sheep, geese and ducks. Animal rescue of dogs and cats. Pretty handy with a paint brush/roller, interior decoration, landscaping ideas and fiddling with my DSLR camera! Houseplants care and propagation and composting are also a hobby of mine.
Side note, I can carry a tune, (though not play an instrument), and ride a motorcycle!
Although American, I can operate a stick shift and drive on the left especially if those pesky curbs don't jump out at me. Parent of 2 now adult children. Nanny of many years for families with young children. Retail sales, B and B owner and operator, Couchsurfing host, small business owner. I can also knit, make soap, sew a straight line on a sewing machine cook a mean mac and cheese and enjoy refinishing wood and metal furniture.

  • Autres infos...

I read copious amounts when possible, devour World History from all regions and love excellent TV and movies, especially Scandinavian, Korean, Japanese and British productions. I have a weird ability to remember ALL celebrity/actor facts even if I know little to nothing about their work. I adore board games, canoeing, cross country skiing, ice skating/roller blading, play a mean game of ping pong, (table tennis), love power walks and am looking forward to experiencing new cultures, especially food. It would be a treat to be able to perfect my language skills in all of the above languages and learn some new ones along the way. I dig playing dominos, mancala and card games. I've always wanted to learn how to play Mahjong!
I am known as a "crafty", creative person but can't actually draw a picture to save my life. If you need a flower arrangement created, a greenery/pinecone wreath made, house decor ideas, jewelry ideas or wood furniture re-finished, gardens worked on, then I'm your gal. :)
It would also be grand to get a chance to improve my horse riding skills. I am comfortable with the basics and am at a beginner/intermediate level but would love a chance to learn more.
Dogs, cheese, babies, plants, baby goats and human children are my favorite things on the planet.
Dancing my legs off and listening to amazing songs are hobbies I take very seriously!
