About me 🌍

Hi! My name is Matilde, I’m 18 years old and I come from Alba, a small town in Piedmont, northern Italy. I was born in 2007 and I’m currently taking a gap year, which I decided to dedicate to something I truly love: travelling, discovering the world and getting to know new people and cultures.

I would describe myself as a calm, thoughtful and responsible person. I can be a little shy at first, but I’m very open-minded, curious and always happy to step out of my comfort zone. I’m also quite active and dynamic, with a strong spirit of adaptation. I love learning new things and I’m the kind of person who is always interested in understanding how other people live, think and see the world.

I have many different interests. I absolutely love reading and studying, cooking, spending time outdoors and being surrounded by nature. I’m also a sporty person and I enjoy staying active. Cooking is something I particularly enjoy because I love trying new recipes and discovering food traditions from different cultures.

I have experience working with children, as I have worked as a babysitter and also given private lessons. I also have several dogs at home, so I’m comfortable around animals and I know how to take care of dogs.

Languages are another big passion of mine. I speak Italian, English, French, German and Spanish, and I also know some Portuguese. I really enjoy communicating with people from different countries, and I think that languages are one of the best ways to understand and connect with a culture.

For me, travelling is much more than simply visiting beautiful places. It is what makes me feel alive. I love the feeling of arriving somewhere completely new, discovering everyday life from a different perspective, meeting people I would never have met otherwise and learning from experiences that I could never have at home.

This is why I would love to do Workaway. I don’t just want to be a tourist — I want to live and experience different cultures from the inside, contribute to the place where I stay, meet local people and learn from them. I’m excited about helping wherever I can, learning new skills and sharing a little bit of my own culture too.

I’m really looking forward to meeting new people, trying new things, helping out, learning and, most importantly, creating meaningful experiences along the way. 🌿✈️

Languages & cultures 🌍 My passion for languages was born from my love for travelling and my curiosity about other cultures. I’ve always been fascinated by the way people communicate, think and express themselves differently around the world. I also love discovering foreign literature, as I believe books are another beautiful way to understand a culture and its people. That’s why I chose to attend a language-focused high school, where I studied English, French, German and Spanish, and I also learned some Portuguese on my own. For me, learning a language is not just about speaking it — it’s about getting closer to a new culture and seeing the world from a different perspective.

My skills 🧡

I have developed different skills through my everyday life, my studies and my previous experiences, and I’m always happy to learn new ones.

👧 Working with children
I have experience as a babysitter and I have also given private lessons. I’m comfortable spending time with children, helping them with homework, playing with them and keeping them engaged. I’m patient, responsible and attentive, and I really enjoy working with children.

🐶 Animals & dogs
I have several dogs at home, so I’m very used to being around animals and taking care of them. I know how to handle dogs, spend time with them, feed them, take them for walks and make sure they feel comfortable and cared for.

🍝 Cooking
Cooking is one of the things I enjoy most. I like preparing meals, trying new recipes and experimenting with different ingredients. I’m also very interested in discovering traditional food from different countries and I would love to learn new cooking techniques from my hosts.

🌱 Nature & outdoor activities
I love being outdoors and spending time in nature. I’m an active and sporty person, so I’m happy to help with outdoor tasks, gardening, taking care of animals or other activities that require energy and motivation. I’m also not afraid of getting my hands dirty!

📚 Studying & teaching
I really enjoy studying and learning, and I have experience giving private lessons. I’m organized, patient and able to explain things clearly. I’m always curious to learn something new, whether it’s a practical skill, a language or something about another culture.

🌍 Languages & communication
I speak Italian, English, French, German and Spanish, and I also know some Portuguese. Being able to communicate in different languages has taught me to adapt to different people and situations, and I really enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds.

🧹 Responsibility & adaptability
I’m a responsible and reliable person. I’m used to taking care of my own responsibilities and I have a good spirit of adaptation. I understand that every host and every place has different routines and expectations, and I’m willing to adapt, listen and help wherever I’m needed.

Most importantly, I’m willing to learn. Even if there is something I have never done before, I’m curious, motivated and happy to be taught. I’m not looking for an experience where everything is already familiar to me — I would actually love to leave my comfort zone, learn practical skills and discover new ways of doing things.
