Description

Hey there :) I love history, music, and learning–and traveling, of course. I am from Southern California and currently taking a gap year before university. I finished a 6-month exchange in Northern Germany (where I lived with a wonderful host family and immersed myself in German culture and language), helped 5 weeks at an Austrian refugee settlement project, and volunteered for 1 month at an intentional community in the UK.

Others would describe me as positive, diligent, responsible, and resilient. I would describe myself as easy-going, optimistic, and friendly. I look forward to exploring new parts of life and forming genuine connections with new people!

Growing up in a multicultural household and traveling to see family abroad, I speak Mandarin and English fluently. I have earned the California Seal of Biliteracy in Mandarin and worked as a Mandarin tutor in speaking practice and vocabulary. I have just finished a 6-month language immersion exchange in Germany, and I would love to continue to learn German. I can comfortably speak in everyday conversations and am interested in expanding my skills.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am happy to help with what is needed! I love to develop new skills and gain experience in new situations, so there is a high likelihood I can help with what you need, even the seemingly ‘random’ things. Over the years, I have spent much time volunteering with community projects, through which I have performed a variety of tasks, from teaching children music to harvesting vegetables. I am a quick learner and diligent in performing assigned tasks.

I have ‘domestic’ skills, such as sewing (clothing/fabric repair), cooking, and baking. I also have some experience with gardening, woodworking, and metalworking. I find these activities rather fun. I have also spent most of my life babysitting/helping with childcare (I am the eldest sister of three), petsitting/animal care (dogs, cats, and horses), and housesitting. Having played the piano for 12+ years and sang in classical choirs for 8+ years, I am skilled in music and love to share my passion. I have taught private piano lessons and a group music course. In addition, I have also worked as a Mandarin Chinese tutor, so I could help with language learning.

While still in school, I interned for a foreign policy think tank, elected government office, and an international nonprofit organization. I am a self-starter and conduct business efficiently. I have also worked extensively in customer service (as in food service, cleaning, and cashier work) and get along with others in professional and personal settings.
