Hi, I'm Iris! I love nature, nice to meet you! I'm from Austin, Texas but have most recently lived in Brooklyn, New York for the past several years. I have had one transformative Workaway experience doing construction at a school in the countryside in Nepal in 2018. I have been very eager to volunteer again and be immersed in more cultures around the world! Life, university, and finances made it difficult to make it happen, but I finally quit my job in NYC to pursue a nature-filled life of hard work, sustainability and community.

My most recent jobs have involved manual labor, and while I am small, I am tough, strong, and love hard work. I am a quick learner with guidance, and independent once taught. I have taken care of dogs and cats, used to ride horses as a young girl, and have babysat children (my nieces and nephews are triplets, age 6)! I have a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a focus on photojournalism, and am good with photography and writing. My hobbies include reading, hiking, and dancing classical ballet (if anyone has done ballet, they know that a strong work ethic and grit is mandatory—and very translatable!).

While social media has many cons, I do think my profile shows my tastes and values quite well--I care for nature, animals and capturing/experiencing that beauty. My instagram is @irisbill, if you're curious at all!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I'm an avid hiker, and I used to work in the outdoor industry. I used to canoe rivers on multi-day trips, camping and collecting water science along the riverbanks. I'm good at communicating, working in groups, following directions, and learning and absorbing information and culture. I have some tech knowledge, am great with kids, can clean, cook, and can put in hard physical labor when needed!
