Hello, my name is Ian and I'm from York, England. Most recently I have travelled in my self-converted camper van and volunteered in Europe, particularly Germany, following a Sociology course at the University of York, and before that I worked in IT for several years. I am ready for a return to travel now that Covid restrictions have subsided, once again motivated to challenge myself with Workaway volunteering!
Having thought about writing for a while now, I would like to embark on this alongside my travels and volunteering. I believe I have at least one novel and one non-fiction book within me, relating to society and human behaviour, which, being a philosopher, has always retained my attention.
In general, I am looking to develop myself further as a human being - I am incredibly focused on making a positive difference in the world, finding working for money (past necessity) soul draining and depressing. There is a better way, and I want to find my place in the world, somewhere I feel at home, integrated, with meaningful purpose and responsibility.
I am eager to learn new skills while sharing my knowledge and experience, keen to learn new languages (such as French and Spanish, having already gained an intermediate knowledge of and ability in German while volunteering there), and look forward to immersing myself in different cultures and ways of life.
I am a very easy going, open minded and compassionate individual. I value different opinions and perspectives, as I can learn a lot from them in comparison to my own.
I enjoy bouldering (rock climbing), tennis, slacklining, guitar/singing, hiking and wild camping (amongst many other things!). Last year I hostelled in Mexico which developed a taste for hostel life, and working with people in hostels is now very appealing to me. I'm physically fit and want to engage more in practical work such as gardening, farm work, building, DIY projects, renovation projects and eco projects. I'm versatile, efficient and quick-to-learn, appreciating diversity in the tasks I perform.
I hope I sound like someone you're looking for, and I look forward to meeting you! :)Centres d’intérêt
