We're in London at present but just about to embark on a two month trip around Arabia. Then it's off for a months skiing. In the summer of 2026 we hope to do our third month long work away.

Description

My wife (Marilyn) and I are retired professionals from West London. We travel extensively - up to half of the year, all over the world - we just came back from a month walking the Camino De Santiago in Spain. We recently finished a substantial house and garden renovation at our home in North Wales so we both have well developed practical/DIY, gardening and some building skills. A few years ago we did a 'ski season' in the French Alps where we ran a chalet for 18. This helped us develop some pretty significant cooking and hospitality skills!

We want to build on our volunteering experience at music festivals, local community groups and environmental projects by engaging in more substantial projects. And love doing Workaways....

We are enthusiastic, fit and energetic people who walk, cycle and ski. We enjoy all manner of physical labour but also have significant technical IT and other admin skills.

We have three now grown up children and seven grandkids...

UPDATE: We completed two Workaway projects in 2024 and 2025 volunteering with the renovation of a 14th Century house. We built dry stone walls, repaired stonework, helped with concrete pouring, general building work and extensive gardening. See our positive feedback from our Workaway Host.

25 years experience in the software industry in variety of technical and marketing roles. Senior management experience (former-VP)
Qualified teacher with 10 years experience as a UK Secondary School teacher of IT, Business and Media Studies.

Practically minded with well developed problem solving, DIY and planning skills

Marilyn
MSc in Environmental Management and MBA (Masters Business Administration)
25 years experience in the computer industry (hardware and software) in variety of technical, sales and general management positions.
10 years experience in environmental campaigning, fund raising and sustainable tourism.

Well developed DIY, gardening and cooking/catering skills.

Ian and Marilyn worked for The Chalet Company between December 2017 until April 2018 as a ‘live in’ chalet couple in our then, flagship chalet, Chalet Evergreen, in Meribel, Morel. This is an 8-bedroomed chalet, sleeping 18 people.

Ian and Marilyn were responsible for planning their own weekly 4 course menu, going down to the supermarket weekly to do their own shopping and providing our guests with attentive and friendly customer service. They were always keen to uphold high standards and even when difficulties arose, which were out of their control, worked tirelessly to ensure our guests still received a high level of customer service. They got on well with other team members and received excellent customer feedback week on week, some of which I have shared below.
