We're very practically minded and have enjoyed undertaking significant house improvement projects over the years - including installing two kitchens, 3 bathrooms, 1 staircase, 2 decks, and lots more.

Description

We are a semi-retired couple who live in Edinburgh - we met at University and have been married for 30+ years !
We love the outdoors and getting involved in 'people' projects. Our skills are wide ranging and we have a genuine enthusiasm for rolling up our sleeves and getting stuck in. We love the Workaway ethos of community, shared effort, and making meaningful connections with people along the way.

We have three adult sons — two and a half of whom have flown the nest — so we have lived the past few decades in a busy household and are very comfortable adapting to different living situations. Our beloved dog, Stanley, sadly died last year - however as animal lovers, we plan to re-home a new furry companion (or maybe 2!) this Autumn. We love wildlife and have spent many hours on riverbanks or in kayaks looking for otters and beavers.

We are experienced travellers, having explored much of Europe in our camper van. This summer we are keen to explore northern Europe - with thoughts to contribute to 2 workaway projects in our van , making us flexible guests re: accommodation.

Between us, we are multi-skilled and have much to offer:
Graham is a technology teacher with focus on engineering. He has a practical, problem-solving mindset and extensive DIY experience. Over the years has has taken on ambitious home refurbishment projects, including the installation of kitchens, bathrooms, a deck, a staircase, and a terrace — so no job around the homesteads is likely to faze him! He has a particular interest in renewable energy and would be keen to get involved in any solar or wind power projects.
Graham is a hill walker, mountain biker, tennis-player, and loves sitting around an outdoor fire.

Me: I'm a, soon-to-be-retired, midwife and public-health nurse, having worked for 40+ years in women's and children's health. I bring warmth, calmness and a thoughtful approach to everything I'm involved in. Like Graham, I'm problem-solver with a great ability to listen, support and empathise with others - young and old. I am also an experienced homemaker, keen gardener, and enjoy painting / upcycling. I'm happiest when I'm outdoors and love walking, swimming, yoga and line-dancing !

Together, we are sociable, easy-going, and genuinely enjoy the kind of community spirit that makes a great Workaway experience — working hard during the day and sharing good company in the evenings. Whether that's a game of cards, a singalong around a campfire, or even a bit of line dancing, we're in!

We look forward to finding hosts who share our love of community, sustainability, and hard work.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

We are parents to 3 young adults - so have brought up 3 boys in a busy family household.

Graham is a qualified Mechanical / Design Engineer and teacher. I am a qualified nurse, midwife, lecturer and health visitor. We both have teaching qualifications and are experienced educators.
We have extensive experience of domestic building / refurbishment projects having renovated 4 of our homes.
Specifically, Graham can undertake plumbing and wiring and anything mechanical. He very much enjoys working with wood.
I am a keen up-cycler - I source pre-loved items and re-furbish them (alter, re-purpose, paint). I also enjoy painting - fill, sand, prep, under and top-coat. I am a competent gardener and love being outdoors - preparing soil, weeding, sewing seeds, watering, pruning, harvesting.
