  • Description

Hello! Hope you’re good and thanks for visiting my profile. A little bit about my before we launch into it: I’m from Manchester, United Kingdom and after completing my Bachelor’s Degree in History, Creative Writing and Gender Studies in 2016, I moved to London where I lived for nearly eight years. I’ve worked in a few different places during my career, including for universities and charities, but the thing that brings it all together is my focus on helping others. Right now, I work for the government providing policy advice. It’s a tough job but something I’m really passionate about.

I’m also passionate about travelling! So far, I’ve explored plenty of Europe, and since 24 I’ve been wanting and waiting for the right time to travel further afield. Finally, after Covid and successfully being accepted for a 10-month career break, I’m now travelling South East Asia (and other countries if the chance arises!) I’m super excited to have the opportunity to see more of the world, exploring nature, cultures and traditions, trying local cuisines, and meeting and helping people, animals and communities.

I believe kindness is key and I’m keen for my trip to meet as many new people as possible to create long lasting memories and meaningful connections. I’m very aware of the privilege I have coming from the UK and being a native English speaker, so I’m looking for opportunities to utilize my skills to help and support others in the countries that I’m lucky enough to visit. So far, I’ve volunteered teaching English in a school in Battambang, Cambodia and at an animal shelter in Cebu, Philippines. I'm currently awaiting the feedback for both positions, but received very positive verbal feedback during both stays.

I would say I’m a creative, social person and I enjoy having fun, good conversations and planning group events! My creative hobbies include drawing, painting, knitting, up-cycling old furniture, and creative writing. I really enjoy cooking and baking and I’m collecting recipes along my travels. I’d be very happy to share and cook the recipes I know and love (both from the UK and abroad!) I love to get stuck into nature and have a green thumb: at home, I had a garden where I would grow flowers, fruit and vegetables. I also love to exercise: I run, swim and cycle (I’m definitely too attached to my road bike) and I enjoy combining my exercise with exploring places. I’m very lucky to come from a part of the UK which is very close to two national parks (the Peak District and the Lake District) which are incredible for hiking, camping and cycling. The hikes during this trip have been a huge plus for me and I’m keen to do more. Finally, I have a huge love for any and all animals. In London, I ran my own pet sitting business and I have a doggo at home who I miss hugely, so any opportunity to work with animals for me is a huge plus, especially dogs and horses :)

With all of my interests, I’m happy to teach and pass on my skills and knowledge to others, especially children.

Thanks for reading through and I’m happy to meet each other in advance on a video call to talk more about my experiences and skills and how we can hopefully work together!

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Let's break this down into five categories to make it nice and easy:

    1. Problem solving and flexibility

Putting this skill first at it can be applied to (and is useful in) every situation! Problem-solving is pretty much my bread and butter. In my job as a government policy advisor, I’m constantly untangling tricky situations, listening to what everyone wants (even when they’re miles apart), and finding solutions that keep all happy. It’s taught me how to think fast, stay calm, and roll with the challenges thrown my way. These skills have been just as useful outside the office—especially when traveling! From figuring out how to teach for the first time during a monsoon in Cambodia to administering first aid to dogs in an animal shelter to embracing new cultures, food, and languages, I’ve learned that being flexible, a bit of quick thinking, and an open mind can handle anything.

    2. Creativity

Creativity has been an integral part of my personality for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was always drawing or making up stories, and that’s never really stopped! These days, I’m into painting, knitting, creative writing, and even upcycling old furniture into something new. Cooking and baking are big passions of mine too—I’ve spent hours perfecting themed three-course meals and collecting recipes to challenge myself in the kitchen. Traveling has inspired me in so many ways, including dedicating time to write a short novel. Creativity isn’t just a hobby for me; it’s a way to bring joy and innovation to everything I do.

    3. Organisation and event planning

Being organised isn’t just what I do—it’s who I am! I’ve project-managed high-level university programs and organized events of all shapes and sizes. I love the whole process, from planning the finer details to watching people enjoy the final result. I’m also big on creativity, so I always try to make my events stand out with fun touches. Whether it’s scheduling a jam-packed day or planning a themed dinner, I’m in my element. Even in my personal life, being organised helps me balance my hobbies and make the most of every moment.

    4. Teaching and working with children

Working with kids is always a joy, and teaching has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done. In the UK, I’ve tutored teenagers in English and Maths, mentored students in underperforming schools, and even led story-writing sessions in a library with 6- to 8-year-olds. Plus, I’ve had plenty of practice teaching my friends’ and families’ little ones—I’m always ready to bring the fun! My favorite teaching experience though was in Cambodia, where I taught English to students aged 8 to 60, who had a range of language proficiency in English. It wasn’t easy (monsoon weather and non-compulsory classes kept me on my toes!), but it was incredible to connect with so many people and see them learn and grow. I got so much pleasure from having deeper conversations with students after teaching them new concepts, words and grammar. Having more opportunities to teach English when travelling, whether in schools or private tutoring, is something I’m excited for!

    5. Working with animals

Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and been so lucky to have a lot of experience with many different animals. In London, I ran a dog-minding business, caring for up to four dogs at a time (plus handling emergencies like injuries and epileptic fits). Recently, I volunteered at a rescue shelter with 30 dogs and 30 cats, taking care of everything from feeding and walking to bathing and administering medicine. Though this can be tiring work (one day I bathed 12 dogs and I walked 14), but the joy I get from working with animals and seeing their happy faces/waggy tails makes it so worth it. I also have some qualifications working with animals, including canine first aid and an Introduction to Horse Care: I’d love to build on this experience. Whether it’s dogs, horses, or any other furry/scaly/feathered friends, I’m always thrilled to help out at animal shelters, farms, zoos or at home :)
