I'm currently living in the mountains of Colorado! I'll be in Hawaii for a couple weeks in October and am hoping to learn more about sustainable farming/living practices.

Hello! Thanks for taking a look at my profile. I’ll be coming to Hawaii for the month of October and am so excited to have the opportunity to experience culture and life there. I am looking to find a Workaway arrangement for two weeks in the middle of the month, specifically from October 10 – 24 (but I have some flexibility with these dates). I have been working as a barista in Colorado for the last nine months, but have also worked as a high school math and science teacher, a surf coach, on an ice cream truck, and as a tutor.
While in Hawaii, I am hoping to prioritize connection – to the land, myself, and others. I want to spend time experiencing the natural beauty of Hawaii, but also want to learn more about living harmoniously with the earth. I have volunteered in a few community gardens and food forests over the years and have tried my hand at growing food of my own (some attempts more successful than others), but I would love to dedicate a more substantial chunk of time learning as much as I can from and helping out on a larger-scale farm/garden. Although two weeks is not as substantial an amount of time as I would ideally have to help out, I do think that there is still a lot of potential for knowledge/skill acquisition and for meaningful impact. I am fortunate to be able to take a full month off from work and thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to both experience Hawaii and gain a little more experience working on/with the land.
I don’t have any formal experience with farm/garden work and don’t have much informal experience either, but I am willing to work hard, like to get my hands dirty, and am very eager to learn and absorb as much as possible! I am so grateful that experiences like Workaway exist to allow people like me to immerse in different cultures and I want to help make a positive impact wherever I end up during my time there.
I am open to spending my time anywhere in Hawaii! I will be in Maui for part of my visit (the beginning and tail ends), but am very happy to go elsewhere through Workaway connections or to stay on Maui. I just want to prioritize finding a good fit wherever it is that I end up.
In my free time, I like to hike, surf, climb, swim, cook, read, and make art. I also enjoy and value learning about different perspectives, trying new things, and gaining new experiences.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I have a strong math/science background (my degree is in Physics)! Although I haven't done much work directly related to Physics since I graduated college, I feel like it has given me a strong foundation for building other skills off of and a general comfortability with problem solving. I have also been slowly trying to gain more skills and knowledge around general maintenance and car repair - I'm still a beginner, but know how to do basic things and use basic tools!
