  • Description

Hello! My name is Emma and I am a recent college graduate who is ready for an adventure in traveling through less traditional methods! I graduated from the University of Idaho with degrees in both Music Education and Instrumental (French Horn) Performance.

I am interested in exploring the environment, engaging with the people around me, and being active in the world. I am more of an introvert, but I absolutely love new adventures and pushing my comfort zone.

I have had more than a few travel adventures so far in my life! As I was growing up, my family traveled every summer visiting National parks, family and friends, and attending music camps. I have also traveled twice to Europe: In 2016 as a member of a band, performing and exploring in five countries, and then with my family in 2017, couchsurfing and visiting friends. It was so fun to be out of the major cities and exploring the hidden gems all around. Through Workaway I hope to get the insider’s perspective on a place, make new friends, and have a much more enriching experience than if I were simply a tourist.

Since 2017 my family has hosted over 53 Workawayers, so we’ve gotten to know many interesting and inspiring people who have stayed with us. I loved seeing how they became a part of our family during their stays, and am so excited for similar experiences during my travels!

I have a strong background in music (from Suzuki violin since age 4 to my recent college degrees, emphasis on piano and French Horn) and have participated onstage in many theater and musical theater productions. I’ve raised chickens and rabbits, and done childcare and housesitting. I’ve grown up helping plant, weed, harvest, and preserve the food we’ve grown.

I’ve worked at music camps in New Mexico and Michigan and know how to teach, manage, and have fun with a bunch of lively children! Last summer I worked at a winery and have a WA State Alcohol Server Permit, so I know how to pour wine, listen and respond to guests, bottle wine, and clean up! This summer I worked in a band at Disneyland, singing, dancing, and performing all over the park as we entertained guests each day.

I am physically fit (work out regularly), enjoy all types of food (will eat anything but prefer healthy choices) and can cook for myself or a crowd.

As far as helping with your projects, you can expect me to arrive with an ability to listen and follow directions. I’ll bring a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a natural inclination to work hard and meet high expectations. (An example of my ability to work hard is that for four years I helped set up event sites during a jazz festival my university holds annually. Our team (4 people) put together 100 drum sets in three hours!) I am happy to help with your projects, and I’ll make every effort to fit in with your family or organization, respecting all people and appreciating different cultures, habits, and beliefs.

I am fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19 and will take precautions as needed to keep everyone feeling safe and comfortable.

I am confident in teaching music, so I’m pretty sure I’ll be good at helping you learn English better, too! I am all about learning a new language if the opportunity is available to me. It will help me to be a more well-rounded person, as well as help me enjoy the culture and those around me more.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have taught music lessons to students ranging in age from 5-70 in both Piano and Brass instruments. I have been teaching private lessons since high school and love having the ability to share music with others. I have worked at Music camps teaching lessons, working in the kitchen to prepare meals, clean up after meals, and I worked with large groups of students in ensembles ranging from Brass quintet to learning about Theater. Last summer I worked at a winery where I learned all about how to take care of grapes and vines, how to describe different wine types and what they pair well with, as well as how to bottle and actually make the wine! I most recently played in a band at Disneyland all summer. I’d be happy to share my skills with you.

  • Autres infos...

I love to read books in the genre of mysteries and horror (such as Stephen King), play card games along the lines of Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, Exploding Kittens, and Cards Against Humanity, board games ranging from Monopoly to Ticket to Ride, and explore music. As a musician I am always excited for the opportunity to support and listen to new music or other live musicians. Traveling and hearing what others have created or changed to make their own is what makes music so special.
