Description
Travelling with purpose and connection is my absolute favorite thing about my journey workaway-ing around beautiful BC! Volunteering as I travel is is something I have always dreamt of doing (and it feels pretty surreal that this is now my reality!)

I spent last summer living with various families across BC helping out on their gardens and homes in any way that I could! I learnt and laughed so much and will cherish these memories and people forever. I am hoping to spend this summer revisiting past workaway families as well as meeting new ones!

What brings me happiness are the little things, delicious vegan food, animals, yoga, live music, hiking, camping and swimming and of course sharing stories with wonderful humans from all over the world. I am motivated to bring love and light into people’s lives and learn all the lessons this wonderful world has to teach!

I am currently working in guest services at a ski resort. I have a lot of experience in customer service, social media management, content creation and e-commerce management. I also have done a lot of copy writing and have managed a learn to sail programme in Brighton, U.K.

I am open and willing to learn anything and everything. I love cooking, being outside, but I am quite honestly willing to help out with absolutely anything!

My time with dawn joe and Diogenes was interesting, insightful, delicious and peaceful.

The set up here for workawayers is very nice, there’s an unbelievably gorgeous washroom and shower facility just for workawayers (feels like a 5-star hotel!), it’s a beautiful property and you are cooked delicious food. We slept in tents in the middle of the… read more forest! We worked 5 days a week from 8:30am ish- lunch time around 2:30pm ish, have lunch and then the rest of the day is yours to explore and chill. I really enjoyed spending my afternoons/evenings at the beach nearby and pender has a few cute events on if you keep your eyes peeled! The town is walking distance from the property too.

Joe would take us around the island for swims at his favourite spots after work which was fun. Dawn would cook delicious food and their friend Diogenes, who stays for part of the week, is a super interesting person who I learnt a lot from and had magical breath-work experiences with.

The garden here is in the early stages of development, everything is super organised and it’s going to be incredible to see the evolution over the next few years. Most of my work was spent in the garden which I loved. It was very special to be a part of creating this space.

I personally did struggle with the intermittent fasting schedule, particularly as the work here is very physically demanding. As I left the farm, the hosts were implementing more facilities (fridge & microwave) for future workawayers which will be a great addition for those who pass through in the future. This workaway definitely has a more regimented feel to it compared to my previous workaway experiences, so if you like structure and boundaries then this is the one for you!

Also, I had imagined to do a daily yoga/breath-work practice with the hosts from the looks of the description/reviews, this wasn’t the case but there is the space for you to do your own practice. We did however do one incredible group breath-work practice during my two week stay, and I was also super fortunate to be staying on the property at the same time as another workawayer who had recently finished her yoga teacher training- she was absolutely amazing and I loved practicing yoga with her and other workawayers in the evenings.

My absolute favourite part of this workaway experience was the other workawayers I met and got to hang out with on the farm. We explored pender island together and I will stay in contact and hopefully meet up with these new friends in the future!

So in my personal experience of this little slice of pender paradise - if you are happy to do hard physical work, have a lot of time/freedom to yourself, meet great workawayers, then this the place for you!
