Hi! I am Ema

I’m 24 years old, born in Slovakia, and I have grown up in Ireland most of my life. I am bilingual in English and Slovak, and I have been learning Spanish for a year (I am still beginner, and wish to make some serious improvements).

In my biggest passion of travelling, I immerse myself in learning new cultures and languages, I find it’s the best way to connect. I am also keenly interested in Portuguese, as it is in my 5 year dream plan to travel South America.

It would be wonderful for me to share my high level of English language skills, while learning Spanish or Portuguese locally. I can even teach some Slovak if you are interested!

I enjoy outdoor activities, hiking, fitness, water sports, dancing, reading, and drawing. In recent years, I have really gotten into yoga and meditation. I used to train in a circus school, with my specialty being aerial. I thrived when I was performing, and I plan to get back into training again. I have some teaching experience in circus skills and art, to children.

I have community volunteering experience, from when I stayed with a family in Fiji for 6 weeks during a build project. I was able to give and gain so much, and it has opened my eyes up to partaking in more opportunities like this.

I am a very hands on, creative, clean person, with a wide variety of experiences, and I hope that I can help my host in whatever they need, while learning along the way.

I was born in Slovakia, growing up with the language. When we moved to the UK, I was 4 years old, and started learning English at home, in nursery, and school. Alongside, my mother homeschooled me in Slovak language for 9 primary years, and I completed exams every summer. I am fluent in Slovak and English. My level of English was graded Literature A+ and Language A in final school exams. I would be confident to teach English or Slovak to anybody who was interested, but I do not have proper teaching skills yet. Being bilingual, has helped me to easier pick up other languages. In Fiji, I was so excited to learn their language in daily conversations, and most of all, their songs. I even spent time teaching some children Slovakian as they found it fun, and already had a basis of English. I am keen to learn another new language. I studied French and Spanish in school, and continued on with Spanish as I loved the language. I have been attending a Spanish class in my city, and would love to experience and learn the language within the country. I hope that someone will be open to practicing with me.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am proud to say I have a wide range of skills, I will do my best to summarise them here. I am really keen to build these skills up more, and learn new ones alongside. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

People skills:
- Communication. I am bilingual, very friendly, bubbly, and very open to intercultural differences in language. I find it naturally easy to communicate with people face-to-face, by telephone, email and online.
- Customer service. Since I was 16, I have been serving customers daily in all of my jobs. I always make sure to give them my best smiles, efforts and help.

Construction skills:
- Building. I started learning basics last summer in Fiji, with my volunteer group and our building manager. Using shovels and wheelbarrows, hand-sawing wood, hammering nails, cutting precise measurements, lifting heavy items and painting.
- Home renovation. Gardening, stripping old materials, filling cracks, painting walls, helping with decisions, building furniture, and siliconing.

Creative skills:
- Arts and crafts. I have been creative my whole life, in designing, drawing, creating, painting, sculpting. It is something I enjoy to this day.
- Teaching children’s workshops. Circus skills such as juggling, hoop, plates, stilts, diabolo, and aerial. Arts and crafts at festivals and community centres.
- Content creation. For my small online business, I created my content of photos, videos, tutorials, and ads to post on social media sites Instagram and Facebook.

General skills:
- Cleaning. Working for an Airbnb, changing bedding and towels, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms, hoovering, mopping, dusting, taking out bins.
- Cooking. From jobs, I have experience in food hygiene, prep and cutting, making, serving, bar work, and dish washing. At home I love learning new recipes, and cooking my grandmothers Slovak recipes to remind me of home.
- Childcare. I looked after children of ages 3-12, for many years. Collecting them from school, activities like art or games, cooking, changing, reading for bedtime.
- Caring for animals. I have taken care of my own pets, dog walked for my friends, and dog sat for family friends.
- Teamwork. In busy fast paced environments working in a team has been great for support and knowledge sharing.
- Organisation. Tasks, time management, and handling pressure very well.
- Computer. Office systems, filing, editing documents, presenting.

Autres infos...

Most of all, I am so excited for what this new experience will bring. With meeting new people and forming new connections, learning the culture and lifestyle of a new place in the world, and hopefully leaving a positive impact when I eventually have to go.
I hope that someone will find my skills and interests positive, can help me to learn new things, and that I can truly help someone in a way they need.
