Description

Hi, I'm Daniel. I wander the earth with a head full of questions and a heart racing from that double espresso I had earlier. I quit my comfortable job in Switzerland in 2018 to focus on travelling outwards and within, a decision I have not regretted even once. The wonderful strangeness of the places and people I've encountered along the way has taught me deep humility and gratitude for my own privilege.

I travelled wide and far before coming to Portugal and eventually settling in Lisbon for a while. At the moment, I'm taking a much-needed break from city life by going around the country in my temperamental old car which for the time being is also my home. I'm working on a private project and am looking for inspiration and distraction in the ambitions of people around me. I'm here to contribute and to learn, to give and to share.

I have a background in history and IT but I find it hard to sit still behind a desk. I'm quite handy with all manner of tools and have some experience (privately and professionally) in garden work. I speak English, Dutch, German, some French and Spanish and enough Portuguese to explain to the mechanic why my car isn't running properly every other week.

I practice yoga, I like to go on long hikes, I skateboard when I can, I write a lot. I'm not much of a wizard in the kitchen, but I can bake a loaf of bread that'll disappear before it gets a chance to cool off. I welcome solitude just as much as I appreciate the company of friends and strangers. Empathy is my religion.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

My experience working as an information management expert in the public and private sector is perhaps not very relevant here, but I've also worked as a DIY store sales assistant, assembled heavy-duty electric motors in a factory, worked as a gardening assistant maintaining public parks and green spaces and taught languages to 14-16 year old kids.

I have stayed in hundreds of hostels and guesthouses all over the world and have helped out here and there, though never in an official capacity. As a veteran traveller, I am thouroughly familiar with the backpacking/tourism scene. I've also hosted dozens of travellers in my own home and played city guide to many more.
