Hey, I'm Char!

I’ve looking for a workaway adventure from January/February 2024 with my partner (Ben). Here’s a little more about us:

Ben is currently working as lead kite surf instructor and school manager at a school in the UK, where he is still currently powering through the initial colder months (the school will be closing for a large part of the winter). Previously, Ben has worked in a variety of hospitality/management roles that we’ve talked about more below. Ben is fluent in English, Spanish and intermediate French.

Now, here’s some more about me, Char. I have been in many customer-facing roles, passionate about delivering a premium, personable service. Winter seasons have seen me managing large teams, coordinating schedules, and overseeing all aspects of ski school operations, from instructors to equipment hire and lesson planning, social media management for cafes and bars. My spare time is spent dabbling in various adventures, from biking or cycling, wakeboarding, snapping photos and clocking many gruelling hours attempting to improve my wing foiling skills! I am also fluent in English, intermediate French and basic Spanish.

We've both done over 5 years in the French Alps, handling various roles in luxury hospitality – from Resort Manager to Hotel Manager and Chalet Manager. Ben even started in maintenance and has a knack for fixing or building just about anything! We also love food - making it, eating it and sharing it!

As mentioned above, we love adventuring and have been splitting our time between snowboarding in the French Alps in the winters, and being beach bums all summer travelling Europe in our self built camper van, and further afield - from the Caribbean to various corners of Asia. We both find ourselves with a couple of months free from work, so see this as a fab opportunity to explore a new area, meet likeminded people and discover new cultures and countries before returning to the UK for the summer months again.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

For the past three winters I have worked in Hospitality in the French Alps managing a Cafe/Restaurant, and previously as a Chalet Host.

My experience in hospitality ranges from cooking, entertaining and cleaning for large groups to changeover days, plenty of long/unsociable hours and emergency hospital runs.

I have previously done a lot of voluntary work in Kenya, working with children in orphanages and building schools, and spent most of my teenage years working on farms and equine yards. I have 5+ years of admin experience and I'm very practical, hard working and a hands on person who is used to physically hard work in all spheres. I'm not afraid to take the leap and get stuck in to anything I'm faced with.

Over the past few years I have picked up the following skills:
- Cooking (I LOVE cooking, have plenty of experience hosting large numbers, a variety of dietary requirements, cocktail making, cooking for & with kids)
- Farming (Very used to manual work and unsociable hours! Have worked on dairy farms and done a season lambing, arable farming, large variety of machinery, fruit picking)
- Gardening/outdoor clearing
- Equine knowledge (Ridden for 20+ years, previously worked as a private groom, riding and handling race horses, youngsters and of course lots of mucking out!)
- General admin skills (phones, emails, minute taking, quick to learn and use variety of online packages and systems, websites etc)
- Art (I really enjoy creating! From photography, drawing, pottery and everything in between)
