Hi, I’m Carys!
I’m a bright and bubbly person with a passion for helping others, being dependable, and empathetic. I love to learn about the different ways that people go about their daily lives especially things like morning routines, family traditions, food, hobbies, and particularly education as I feel it is largely what influences the person you become.

Through volunteering I want to throw myself into an environment that is very different from what I’m used to, and really broaden my perspective of people and life! Hence, I would love to visit and volunteer in Southeast Asia to immerse myself in the cultural differences from the UK.

I would love to be involved in teaching young people and doing charity work, striving to promote better inclusivity in education and beyond. I am also very passionate about making physical activity and artistic expression accessible to all, particularly through my love for dance. I am currently working as a Kpop dance teacher alongside my studies and have built a community and supportive network that I believe every child should have, no matter what they’re interested in! I hope to continue this development through my volunteering and inspire young people to feel confident in themselves and thrive in what they enjoy.

I am very interested in teaching English as a foreign language. Both to adults who are interested in improving their skills, and particularly to children in schools! I would love to become a full time teacher one day so would love to experience volunteer teaching. I am also very interested in learning about other languages!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

1. Teaching – I am currently working as a dance teacher at my university so have experience in:
- Lesson planning and setting clear goals for student progression
- Competition team leader – monitoring student progress and giving constructive feedback
- Catering lessons to a wide range of abilities
- Excellent written communication to relay important information
- Teamwork as a member of the society’s committee
- Strong leadership and ability to teach a large class
- Worked as a peer mentor for my University, working with first year students to help them settle in.

2. Customer service/hospitality – I worked as a waitress in a busy restaurant.

3. I am in my final year studying a degree in Medical Microbiology
- Knowledge of complex scientific concepts
- Developed the skill to communicate information in a range of formats (PowerPoint presentations, informative posters, graphical abstracts, video awareness campaigns, designed school outreach activities)

4. I am organised and hardworking and will go out of my way to help others in every way I can – I can help with cooking and cleaning and running errands when needed!

5. I have volunteered at a turtle conservation project in Malaysia so am very happy to do conservation work within the community.

A bit more about me...

- I love food! I would love to learn about the eating culture in the places I visit, and would love to learn how to cook a bit myself from locals!
- I love listening to music (especially Kpop and any upbeat music to dance to!)
- I am a big fan of Kdramas and also like to watch travel and cooking documentaries in my spare time.
- If you haven't figured out already I love to dance! I am mostly self-taught and specialise in simple freestyle, street styles/hip hop, and commercial (though I was a ballerina when I was little). For me dance is an important way of expressing my confidence and personality in a way I would otherwise struggle to.
- I love to meet new people and try new activities to challenge my comfort zone.
