Hello! :) I am Ben from the UK. I’m into music and try to get to a few gigs/festivals. I love cooking, baking food and cooking with other people. Feel free to get in touch if our travel plans match :)

Description

Hi, I'm Ben and I am looking to connect with hosts in the beautiful South of Italy to take part in cultural exchange, work or teach English.

I am a very active person who finds solace in the outdoors. I have been on many walking holidays, with a trip to The Dolomites being a particular highlight! I think you can learn so much if you are travelling by foot or by bicycle. Recently I cycled from Bristol to Lands End, Cornwall during which I could really appreciate the landscapes over the 450km trip.

A true passion I have is cooking, baking, fermenting, or basically anything that takes place in the kitchen! I enjoy cooking with whatever natural produce there is available. I would love to learn more about Italian cuisine and any regional specialities.

I have visited Puglia twice recently and I am very keen to return to the enchanting, culturally rich area. I wish to make a positive impact through my hard work, eagerness to learn and flexibility.

I believe in the importance in consideration for the environment and local communities. I see Workaway as an opportunity for expanding my horizons and sharing knowledge through lovely conversations. :)

I am TEFL qualified and I'm interested in any teaching opportunities. I'm eager to share my passion for language learning with students from diverse backgrounds. I am learning Italian through a self-directed online course but I am very much a beginner. I am really keen to become more fluent.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Practical:
Gardening - I have helped to maintain my parents and my grandparent's garden. I have experience maintaining vegetable patches, maintaining paths and patios, sewing seeds and using machinery including a lawn mower and a jet washer. I have painted and varnished wood to maintain sheds and benches. Importantly, I am resilient and love to get stuck in and muddy!
Dry-stone walling - I have repaired and built a dry-stone wall using traditional methods.

Culinary:
Baking - I am a keen baker. I would love to learn more about local traditions and bread making methods!
Making conserves and pickles - With the glut of blackberries we have at the end of summer here in the UK, I have regularly made blackberry jam. I have also made marmalade and various chutneys such as caramelised onion and apple chutney.
Cheese-making - I love cheese and have made Halloumi cheese from scratch. I also make fresh paneer to go with whatever curry I am making. I am very eager to try more regional cheeses!
Mixologist - I have worked at a cocktail bar and I am a trained cocktail maker!

English Teaching:
TEFL qualification - I have recently acquired a 120-hour Premier TEFL course qualification and I am looking to gain experience here. I am a native English speaker and the qualification has provided me with the tools and techniques to create dynamic and effective English lessons. I'm eager to share my passion for language learning with students from diverse backgrounds.

I have volunteered teaching English to groups of asylum seekers in the UK, this ignited my enthusiasm for helping students develop their language proficiency.
