Description

Hi there! We are Annika and Janne, both 19 years old from Germany. We just graduated from high school (Abitur) this spring! Before we dive into our university studies, we want to explore the world and give back by working hard. We are energetic, reliable and absolutely love animals.

We would describe ourselves as open-minded, friendly and curious, we love discovering new places, meeting new people and learning about different cultures. We really enjoy travelling because it gives us the chance to step out of our comfort zone, see things from a different perspective and experience what life is like in other parts of the world.

I grew up in Germany, but my family is originally from the Czech Republic, so I speak German, English and Czech fluently. I also learned a little Spanish at school and have always been very interested in languages. I would love to connect, improve or learn new ones :) My friend Janne is fluent in English and German too.

Animals have always been a big part of our lives, especially horses. We have been riding for around 9 years and gained lots of experience with horses and caring for them over the years. We would like to learn even more. We also have experience looking after other animals, including dogs and cats, through pet-sitting. Janne owns a dog herself. We really enjoy spending in nature and with animals, making sure they feel comfortable and well cared for.

We enjoy learning new things and getting involved, adapting to new environments. We don’t mind getting our hands dirty and are happy to help wherever we’re needed, open to learning new skills along the way.

This will be our first workaway experience, since we graduated this spring. We’ll move to another city in April, I’ll start studying International Relations and Janne will start studying to become a teacher. She has completed her apprenticeship as social-an educational assistant and spends lots of time working in kindergarden, so we‘re both good with children :)

I have already travelled quite a lot, to Namibia, Florida, Croatia and other countries. My favorite countries I‘ve ever been to are Italy and Spain. We’re really looking forward to getting to know a different way of life and are open to all kinds of tasks and experiences.

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying with Cami, and we honestly couldn’t have wished for a better person for our very first Workaway experience! From the very beginning, she made us feel more than welcome and at her home. We are incredibly grateful for the three amazing weeks we got to spend with her and will always look back on this … read more experience with a big smile.

One of the highlights was, of course, spending time with the horses. We were both able to go on rides with Cami, and she always made sure that we had equal opportunities to enjoy time with the horses and experience the same beautiful routes. It was so lovely to see how much she cared about making this experience equally special for both of us. The work we had to do was very manageable, which gave us plenty of time to enjoy the animals and really make the most of our stay.

Cami trusted us completely, and over the three weeks, we built a really lovely connection with her. We appreciated how much freedom she gave us and how comfortable she made us feel. Whenever we wanted to explore another town around Lake Como, she was always happy to help us find suitable train connections and plan our trips. This made it easy to combine our time at the farm with exploring the beautiful surroundings.

Her family was also incredibly kind and welcoming. Even though communication wasn’t always easy because we don’t speak Italian, everyone made us feel included and comfortable. Staying with Cami was not only an opportunity to work with animals but also a wonderful way to experience everyday life in Italy, learn about Italian culture, and get to know the people and their way of living.

Lecco was the perfect place for our Workaway experience. We loved being able to experience the peaceful countryside and beautiful mountains while also having the opportunity to visit the city, explore the area around Lake Como, and meet new people. The combination of nature, animals, Italian culture, and city life made our stay truly special.

We are so, so happy that we chose to stay with Cami and couldn’t be more thankful for everything she gave us during these three weeks. She made our first Workaway experience unforgettable, and we would recommend staying with her to anyone without hesitation. If you are looking for a welcoming, trusting, and caring host, who gives you the opportunity to spend lots of time with horses while experiencing authentic Italian life, Cami is the perfect person. Thank you so much, Cami, for this amazing time we will always remember it fondly!
