Hey!

My name is Ana Luiza, I'm 25 years old, Brazilian and psychologist. I love my profession, but I decided to take a gap year to live abroad for an (indeterminate) time.

I've been volunteering in Kelowna, BC since the beginning of October, in a house with two children (2 and 4 years old) and one dog. This experience has been incredible for me, they have become a family and the girls have helped me improve my skills with kids. For future volunteering, I would like to continue in a home with children, as an environment like this helps me in the process of being away from my family.

I am very attached to my family and I already miss them a lot. Therefore, I am looking for a family that welcomes me, that makes me feel at home and that feels comfortable letting me participate in some (or many) family activities.

I am part of a large family (my father, my mother, myself, my 2 sisters, my nephew and my 2 brothers-in-law). I am the youngest sister of 3 daughters and today I am the aunt of a beautiful 1 year old baby. As much as I love to have lots of company, I also appreciate having some time alone with myself. I am completely in love with my nephew. I love when I travel to my sister's city and I can take care of him for a long time. We always have a lot of fun. He's still a baby, but I've always gotten along well with kids of diferent age: 2, 3, 4, 8, 10 years old.

The dream about living abroad came from my desire to be fluent in the English language. These days, that's not the only reason I'm going. In addition to developing my English, I want to get to know a new culture, new people, but also to get to know myself. I'm looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and improving my self-awareness.

Regarding my English, I graduated from an English language school and can be considered intermediate, but it has not been practical for 6 years. Currently I find it easier to listen and read, and difficulty in speaking and writing. Considering that, some patience and help will be needed in the first months, until I get more familiarized with English again.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Babysitting: I've always loved being around children and looking after my cousins when necessary. I have a 1-year-old nephew and I always help my sister when I go to visit her, so I have a little experience with babies. I have two friends who have children, a 3-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, and I have a 4-year-old cousin. With the children I have more contact at playtime, and it's always a lot of fun to be with them, it brings me a lot of peace and joy. Here in Canada, I'm volunteering for the first time and I'm in the home of a family with two children. It's been an incredible experience, the girls and I have had a lot of fun together, doing crafts, painting, coloring, dancing, hiking, etc. They also love to brush my hair and make hairstyle.

Dog care: I've always had dogs at home, both large and small. I love them. I feed them, water them, take them for walks, play with them, cuddle them, take them for vaccinations at the vet. But when they get sick, it's my father who gives them the medicine.

Helping around the house (Tidying the house, light cleaning, washing dishes, doing the laundry): I've always helped my mother around the house, so I've been doing these activities since I was young. I've been living on my own for 6 years now, so my experience has only increased, as I do all the activities needed to keep an apartment in order.

Cooking: I'm not an expert in the kitchen, but I've always made the basics for my meals: rice, pasta, meat, chicken, eggs, grilled fish, boiled vegetables. I mainly cook for 1 person (2 at most), I've never cooked for more people, but I'd have no problem learning and improving myself.

Helping with Computers/ Internet: I'm very good with the internet and I always help my parents and uncles with whatever they need. I know a bit about video, marketing and photos.

DIY: I've already made a few do-it-yourself items and I'm interested in improving these skills.

In my spare time I like to read books, ride my bike (I've done mountain bike trails), go to the gym to do weight training, do yoga, watch the sunrise and sunset, see new places, travel.

I love nature, trees, blue skies and sunsets. I'm passionate about beautiful places with beautiful views to enjoy.
