Description

I am about to complete my Master's Degree at the University of Vermont in Environmental Engineering, where I am conducting research on snow hydrology, which consists of a lot of computational modeling and field work (aka skiing). Coming to NZ for a bit to give my brain a little break from school! I love learning about my natural environment, and I'm hoping to explore some new ones with Workaway in NZ! I love exploring and getting to know new places, and I LOVE maps. I am passionate about the outdoors--I love backcountry skiing, mountain biking, trail running, hiking, sailing, windsurfing, and art. Looking forward to finally getting to NZ--it seems like paradise!!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am an engineer, so I'm fairly savvy at problem solving and working with my hands. I'm more so on the programming side of engineering, but I have a lot of experience with setting up weather stations so I'm good and learning about equipment! I am a skilled outdoorsperson with a lot of experience navigating both mountains and the ocean: I've done multiple multi-day backcountry ski trips, and used to work as a student guide for a backcountry skiing and avalanche leadership development program; I used to be a sailing instructor, so I have worked on boats a lot (maintenance, cleaning, provisioning, teaching sailing to kids and adults) and have done a couple of longer sailing trips around the BVI and other Caribbean islands with my family, as well as one offshore trip delivering a boat from Florida to NYC (10 days at sea!). I am strong and physically fit, I do a lot of long distance running. Also a bonus--I used to ride horses a lot so I have a lot of experience with them!
