Description

We are Laura and Jean-Jacques and we live in Austin, Texas, USA. We enjoy nature, travel, and work together doing projects around the house. We are interested in exchanging cultural experiences and learning from others. We are currently on a two-month Workaway in Italy doing general housework, gardening, small repairs and lots of dog-walking.

Laura is currently retired and has done one Workaway. She spent two weeks on a goat dairy in Fordland, MO. and she loved it! We both love to do projects, such as building a rock patio, doing our own landscaping, and general home repairs. We have both prepared two houses for sale, which included laying 1000 square feet of ceramic tile, small repairs, painting, landscaping and lots of cleaning.

Laura is the youngest of six kids. Her father was a carpenter, so she understands basic construction and use of tools. She grew up in the country where she helped her parents build their house, raise chickens and rabbits, learned to can food from a large garden, cooked and cleaned for large groups of people. She has hosted multiple baby and wedding showers and has been the wedding planner for 5 weddings; has basic cake and cookie decorating skills.

Jean-Jacques has lived in France, Switzerland, and Mexico. He speaks Spanish, English and French. He manages his own properties, including conducting general repairs such as plumbing, repairing basic appliances, painting, and fencing. He is eager and willing to learn new skills.

We both have a real yearning for adventure and have been lucky to experience a lot of international travel in the last few years. We have traveled to Mexico, Scotland, Ireland, Greece, France, Switzerland, Canada, and Italy.

We love to be outdoors. Swimming, hiking, biking, and camping are among our favorite hobbies.

We are both hard workers and quick studies if shown how to do something. We are very laid back, open-minded and accepting of new people and new experiences.

Laura speaks English and has a basic understanding of Spanish. Jean-Jacques is a fluent Spanish and English speaker, and also speaks French, although he doesn't speak it often.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

We are both hard workers. We are strong and not afraid of tackling a hard job.
Laura can cook and is used to cooking for large groups. She can also sew, do gardening and yard work. Laura is pretty good at crafts if she's given an idea of what you want. She can arrange flowers, decorate cupcakes, baking, light carpentry, prep walls for painting, lay ceramic tile (laid 1000 square feet in her own home). She has also done some texturing of walls.

Jean-Jacques is fluent in English and Spanish, conversational in French. He has done general repair work at home, such as plumbing, fixing doors, changing locks, painting rooms and doors, fixing fences and fixtures. Jean-Jacques also knows a little about cars and how to maintain and repair certain components. He also knows about computers, an has done some hardware repair as well as introduced software updates.

Laura has spent most of her life in a courtroom working as a court reporter. She enjoys traveling and learning from others.
Jean-Jacques has worked for private and public organizations in compliance and IT auditing. He grew up in Mexico and has a French background. He also enjoys independent traveling, gathering experiences and new skills, and learning from others.
We have dogs and love animals, and know well how to take care of them.
