Hello :-)
My name is Yana Levy. I'm originally from Chapel Hill NC in the United States, but am currently living in Banda Aceh Indonesia, teaching English at a university. Through my program, I have lots of time off to travel around Asia, which I hope to use to enrich my perspective and leave a positive impact on the places I go.

In addition to living in Indonesia for about a year, I have lived in Morocco, traveled a bit around Europe, South America and the Caribbean, as well as Asia. Having the opportunity to see how other people live, and and put myself in others shoes is something that I take very seriously. I'm interested in creating meaningful mutualistic relationships. Not simply consuming another culture as a tourist, but making contributions to the communities that host me.

My experience/what I can contribute:
Through different workaways I've gotten the chance to work on a couple small-scale permaculture/agroforestry projects. I won't claim to be any kind of expert, but I picked up some knowledge along the way that take me beyond a complete beginner. Besides that I am physically fit, enjoy working outside, and am eager to learn more about how food production can be sustainable.

In my work at the University I teach English, as well as create programming for intercultural exchange and student development. This means I take on many roles from facilitator, to social media manager, to coordinator.

Overall, I can contribute a positive attitude, an open mind, and a flexible hard-working mentality. I would say that I am an adaptable hardworking individual who can contribute to many different kinds of environments.

In my free time I love to:
-Paint and make art
-Music--I play guitar and drums and have a million playlists I would love to share!
-Cook and Bake--I would love to make you a meal
-read--I like a mix of historical books and nonfiction
-run--my goal is to run a half marathon this December
-Hike and spend time outside

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

- art: I give art lessons to children and have my own practice.
- childcare: I have worked in after-school programs, and also been a nanny
- outdoor gardening/landscaping work: from past service experiences. I have also backpacked a bit if that counts for anything.
- experience in the kitchen in an eating/living coop at school where we share responsibilities for our food and space.

Autres infos...

My favorite activity of all time is seeing live music of all kinds! bands, or just watching someone strum a guitar. I also love to perform and can sing and play little songs:)
