Hi there! We are a family of 4: Vincent (43) Els (38), Ido (3) and Sep (almost 1). In Spring 2026 we finally made our move to Portugal, to start a new chapter in our life and join an inspiring eco village and paying several visits. A new beginning that feels fantastic. As the area that we are residing in will be swamped in August and the pre-school will be closed, we are looking for a housesitting opportunities in that month.

***Looking for house sitting /pet sitting opportunities in August 2026 in Spain, preferably in a green area, close to mountains is a big plus. Experience with dogs, cats, donkeys, rabbits, chickens. We have sublet our home for 2 years, so we now how it feels to leave your home in someone else's hand. We will take good care of it, leave it clean and have prompt and clear communication with you.****

About Vincent:
I'm a music composer for movies and animation, guitar/piano player, computer wizard, love traveling, eager to experience and absorb life outside the small country that I'm from. Although I do have a lot of experience with computers/internet I am happy to trade all the digital stuff for a life outdoors, traveling and working with nature.

About Els:
I recently quit my job at the University of Amsterdam as a community manager. Previously I worked as a freelancer for NGO’s and the local government. In my free time I do climbing, yoga and do my best to find some me-time with two little kiddos around. I'm a certified Menstrual Cycle Awareness Mentor and exploring ways to start my business around it.

About kiddos:
Ido is calm, observing and fun toddler, 3,5 years old. Playing with big fantasies. He loves biking, building, drawing, singing and reading books.
Sep is an active mover, just learnt how to crawl and loves to have some fun.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Vincent:
Multi-lingual, autodidactic, fan of learning new things, fan of infinitely refining my taste, music composing, playing music, acoustic guitar player, playing piano and double bass, cooking honest food, experienced driver, humorous tendency, computer expert, website design. Etcetera!

Els:
Through my work I gained experience designing lessons and training material for youth (sexuality education) and adults (psychosocial health). If possible, I would like to use these skills for any small-scaled social initiative. Development and growth all start with education, so let’s educate and share! I also have some teaching experience.
I’ve done multiple evaluation research for projects (research design, setting up surveys, conducting interviews), if this is desired I can help out. I am very fond of research and education, so do not hesitate to ask!
But besides this, I would love to work with my hands (gardening etc) since I have been working with my head so often :) Also, I love animals!

So almost a year has passed and finally we made it to review our wonderful stay at Celal and his family's small paradise right next to a river stream and between orange, lemon, kumquat, grapefruit, citrus fruits and pomegranate tree lots.

What can we say? It was so perfect and easy. Luxurious even, every morning we got served breakfast in the … read more restaurant at the property, lunch and diner, stayed in a 5-star bungalow with complete privacy, with a small private terrace and view on the streaming river and distant mountains.

After having bounced ideas off each other, we eventually helped out with shooting videos of the property, the workers, the restaurant team, events that were hosted at the location and ancient hotspots in the area dating from times long ago, like Limyra (on walking distance) and Arykanda (Celal drove us and provided a tour) and a colourful old village nearby called Gökbük. The videos could be used for promotion and on social media.
Because Celal likes Turkish and regional history and a few breaks from work sometimes this was a win-win situation for both us, because we got to see and experience the surrounding villages as well.

For two weeks, we enjoyed getting to know Celal and his family and friends visiting, the restaurant team, and Celal even introduced us to a nearby friend where we were offered to continue our next Workaway adventure after we had completed our stay.
We had an apple pie baking contest together with Celal's mom, and got treated with wine and dinner on my birthday.

Even though we stayed in December, the weather was mostly quite warm during the days and soft in the evenings. I understand that it's preferable to stay as a couple, since it's quite a walk to the center of Finike and apart from the staff and restaurant visitors during the day the place is relatively secluded. Luckily Celal and his family are there often, so they drove us to Finike a couple of times and we even had a swim in the sea!
Celal's parents also invited us over for diner, and my thanks again to Celal's father who gave me a beautiful souvenir to hunt with (with which I still need some practice).

Thanks again, Celal, for having us. For sharing this beautiful spot with eager Workawayers and to be open to whatever input or ideas come up. I hope you will manage to let Finike flourish and give yourself enough rest in the process, as well! :)
