  • Description

Hello everyone ! My name is Victoria, I'm 25 years old, from France :) I love travelling, meeting new people, get in touch with different cultures and learn about our big vast world.
Here's a little bit about my life :
I was born in a very rural part of France (Aveyron) and grew up on a farm : my dad owns about 60 cows. My mom is a cook and is a multitasking master around our house. Basically my whole life, I've seen both of my parents working around the farm or the house and often gave them a hand : to move catle from one field to another, for different repairs and works in the house, to move firewood, to maintain the vegetable garden, to feed the animals... We also own chickens and currently we have 3 cats and 3 dogs. (I say 'currently' because our cats are countryside cats, they roam free and we had a few cats gone missing since I was a kid so sometimes we had only 2, sometimes 5...). Throughout my childhood, we also had ducks, peacocks, guinea pigs and even rabbits at one point ! I've always been an animal lover (when I was little, I even named one of our chickens and thought it was my best friend), I love spending time with them, taking care of them and make sure they are as happy as possible . I can become really attached, especially to dogs : I really missed my dogs back at home when I left for a long time. I also love nature as I'm used to being surrounded by it : our house is part of a tiny "village" with only 3 other houses, so I'm used to quiet and being far from everything.
    EDUCATION :
Since my high school was too far away, I was in boarding during my 3 years there. I got my Baccalauréat (A-levels) with a mention, focusing on literature and languages. After a couple of gap years, I moved to Toulouse for college : I got my degree in Film making and Visual Arts. Cinema is my passion and what I want to do with my life later. I'm fascinated by every aspect of it (directing, writing, photography etc) and I really hope I'll get to make my own movies one day.
    EXPERIENCE ABROAD :
To the suprise of my friends and family, at 18 I decided to be an au pair in the USA for a year. After high school, I really wanted to see the world, to get myself out of my comfort zone before starting any long studies. It came as a suprise to my loved ones as it is not very popular for young people in France and especially from a rural background, to do a gap year. I also was very young, barely 18, had just gotten my driving licence, had never gotten further than Brussels in Belgium and had never been on a plane ! But I really wanted to push myself to do something new and wanted to see other places than the ones I had seen for the last 18 years... It was the best decision I've ever made. I absolutely loved the experience, I met wonderful people and traveled to places I was daydreaming about back in France. I loved it so much I extended my stay there for another 9 months : I spent 1 year with a family in Pennsylvania, then started my extension in Miami where I rematched with the family, to end up in San Francisco for my last few months. Although I did not enjoy the end of my experience as much as I thought as COVID hit, so I was happy to come back to France in June 2020.
Then during my degree, I kept thinking about my trips, my au pair life, the friends I made there etc and I got really nostalgic. I decided to go back for another year as I thought 'now is the time' and I don't want to have any regrets in my life, so I needed to make up for those last months in the US when quarantine happened.
In september 2023, I left for a year in San Francisco with a new host family. It was my best au pair year as the match was perfect, my english much better and I was a much more mature and organized person. I came back home in september 2024 and have stayed in touch with my host family since then (we even saw each other in Greece last summer !).
    TRAVEL :
I never travelled with my family as a kid so I discovered this passion as an adult, with my first big trip to the USA as an au pair. I saw many places there, some of my favorites were : the Grand Canyon, New York City, the Niagara Falls, the Bahamas... I was also able to go to Canada (Montreal) from there. During my 2nd time in the US, I discovered some more amazing places : New Orleans, Los Angeles, Hawaii (which I fell in love with)... I even got the chance to do a 2-week trip to Costa Rica ! It felt like my first real 'adventurous' trip with many different stops, a new language, a complete different way of life and unique landscapes. It's still one of the top trips of my life.
As of Europe, when I was a kid I got to go to Barcelona and Brussels with school trips. Then during college, we went to Italy with my best friend : to Milan and Rome. I was also in Greece for a short time this summer. I'd like to discover more of Europe now, as I've realized there's already so much to see so close to my house and I've barely been around in my own continent...
    HOBBIES :
I obviously love watching movies and tv shows. I like going to the movies as often as possible, even though it is pretty hard to do so here at home (the closest theater is almost an hour away, so when I go, I see 3 movies in a row !). I also like reading, although I think I don't do it enough. (I'm currently on my 7th book of the year) I often listen to music, I almost never stay in silence (unless I'm outside), I like to have a tune to motivate myself. I have a nice little collection of vinyl records (I have about 30, would love to own a lot more by the time I'm old). My tastes go from Elton John, Depeche Mode, Queen to Imagine Dragons, Billie Eillish and Harry Styles, with some french pop and lots of movie soundtracks.
I like DIY and arts. I don't think I'm really good at it but I sometimes draw and paint. I've been journaling since I was kid. I also love to come up with costumes for Halloween and such, often making my own accessories and even sawing my outfit.
I also like cooking, baking, taking nice pictures and videos during my trips and edit them.
    SPORTS :
I've praticed lots of different sports since I was a kid : climbing, dancing (mostly contemporary), circus (hula hoop, trapeze...), rugby etc. These last few years I've gotten into roller skating, most specifically roller derby. I joined the Toulouse Roller Derby league in college and I'm now part of the club of Rodez back in Aveyron while I live at home.
During my trips, I've experienced some new sports here and there, like surfing, kayaking, skydiving, scubadiving etc. I'm always up to discover a new sport, even more if it involves adrenaline !
    LIFESTYLE :
    I've been a vegetarian since 2019.
I always try to be as eco-friendly as possible with my daily consumption : I do not buy new clothes anymore I only do thrifting, I avoid buying what says 'Made in China' and pick the fruits and vegetables that are from France at the supermarket. I only buy vegan makeup and I try to switch to sustainable products like fabric makeup remover pads, solid refillable toothpaste, bamboo toothbrush...
The one thing I'm not really good at monitoring my environmental impact with is transport, as I love to travel and it often leads me to fly. I also drive a gas car almost daily at home. I try then to counter this impact with daily efforts to consume eco-friendly, recycle properly and spread awareness about our environment.
    PERSONNALITY :
I'm very patient and get angry very rarely. I hate conflict and I'm very open-minded : I'm always up for a debate and to discuss different topics. I'm very curious as I'm eager to learn anything new : I'm open to gain any experience, knowledge and technique from a person who is willing to share them.
I'm a positive person : I like to always see the good side of something or someone and I always try to have a positive outcome out of any experience.
I love meeting new people, especially if they are as eager as I am to exchange with them. I like to consider myself non-judgemental and will treat anybody the same way, regardless of their skin color, religion, gender, sexual-orientation etc.

I'm very much looking forward to my next cultural exchange and to create great memories with my new hosts ! Don't hesitate to message me for any questions ! :)
