Description

After 8 years of working in the city of London in an intense corporate environment, my girlfriend Catherine and I decided that we needed an adventure. This meant selling our possessions, packing a bag and spending 6 months in South America.

We visited almost every country in this amazing continent and had the time of our lives. The experience gave us access to real nature for the first time in many years and has inspired us to change our lifestyle to make more memories in the great outdoors. Our highlight of South America was the time spent trekking in Peru and exploring the amazon rainforest.

We are now back in Central America after a short stint living in Canada and are 1.5 months into the third leg of our trip. We are completely loving it so far!

We have always had a shared passion for travel, which meant spending most of our time outside of London despite living and working there and not we've got no plans to stop exploring!

Together, Catherine and I love, hiking, cooking, making friends and generally spending time in nature.

Right now we are looking for a volunteering opportunity, so we can learn more about Guatemala and Lake Atitlan, make friends, help out and most importantly make life long memories! We're very easy going, hard working, and up for any challenge!

During the last 6 months, I have been attempting to learn Spanish independently. This isn't a language I was taught in school, so I'm starting from scratch. After spending 6 months in South America, I've picked up the basics, but want to continue my language learning journey.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Building and Construction (Tom)

I have held several positions in labour roles working in construction and the events trade as a marquee erector. Working in construction has given me basic proficiency using power tools and building techniques. Employment in the marquee trade demonstrates my ability to complete a physically demanding role, including handling heavy equipment and working long hours, sometimes exceeding 100 per week.

Gardening and Landscaping (Tom)

From the ages of 14 until I went to university, I maintained the grounds of my local community centre. This meant I was responsible mowing lawns, cutting hedge rows, using a strimmer. I worked in the role autonomously as I was trusted to ensure the grounds quality without supervision. In addition to this role, I have worked on larger garden restoration jobs for private clients.

Animal Care

Tom grew up in a house full of animals, dogs, cats, fish and guinea pigs. Catherine grew up in rural Ireland and spent many summers working her uncles farm, supporting him in all aspects of the job. Catherine has also spent a lot of time ridding and caring for horses.

Cooking

Cooking has long been a shared interest for us both. We're very happy in a kitchen preparing food for others. Tom spent time working in professional kitchens as a sous chef in his younger years. This means he has an education in food standards, hygiene and food preparation. Catherine has a passion for food which has become a big part of her life.

Cleaning

We've always been a clean and tidy people and our time working in various hospitality roles has taught us lots about the correct use of products and not being afraid to get your hands dirty.

Hospitality

During Toms time at university, he worked for a high end events management agency. My roles included managing teams of staff at Theatre bar services and large scale corporate events. I also used to host stadium boxes, which meant entertaining customers for sporting fixtures and concerts. Catherine also has experience working front of house in bars and pubs.

Computers

Both Catherine and I have had 8 year careers working in technology. We began our professional occupations as consultants where we worked on enterprise implementation projects for Microsoft technology. We've since migrated to operational roles, but spending as much time with computers as we do means we are very proficient.
