Hi,
I am Timothy, a 38 year old belgian man who planned to take a gap year in 2020 and fill it with some workaways and travels but that plan didn't work out very well, as you know why. As the world is open again for a while i want to pick up that idea again.

During the lockdown i lived in my grandparents empty house and kickstarted the big vegetable garden again which made me discover a passion for gardening which i am eager to learn more about. Back in the city i started a little vegetable garden on the rooftop. I would to love to develop this further and learn new things about gardening/farming. It is a dream of mine to one day have a small plot of land to develop.

After being a social worker for more than 10 years and being responsable for/coordinating multiple projects, it's time for a change. I want to discover more of the world and myself. As much as I like travelling around and discovering new places I also like gaining new experiences and skills, getting to know a place / people more in depth and do something useful/productive and helping out others. That's why I am on workaway, to get the opportunity to achieve those goals. I believe in interacting with local communities to learn new things and share experiences.

I also have a teacher's degree and have teaching experience. I also have experience in teaching dutch as a second language and have a TEFL.

I am an easygoing openminded person who is eager to learn. I like to think in terms of opportunities/solutions instead of problems. I love working with people and meeting new people. That's why i am also active on couchsurfing by hosting people in Antwerp and showing them around (you can check my profile here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/timo_dr). I like to see myself as a sociable and easy to talk to person. I like telling stories, sharing knowledge, showing people around and having good laughs with a drink (or multiple drinks).
I also organize punk/garage/hardcore (or anything related) gigs in Antwerp with a small group of friends. It feels good to contribute to the music scene that formed me, giving bands the chance to play and get people to concerts.
Besides that i am into books, music, concerts, spinning records, running, cooking, hiking, being in nature, discovering big city life, art, learning languages, just hanging out with friends and probably a lot more things.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

-Through my job as a social worker and teamleader I gained following skills: experience with working in a very multicultural environment, good interpersonal skills (listening, showing empathy, resolving conflicts,...), communicating through a language barrier, perspective on life and society in general, having responsibility, planning and organizing, teaching dutch as a foreign language
-Organizing gigs with a small team: making contacts, networking, receiving bands/hospitality involved, promotion (through social media and in real life), coordinating and dividing tasks involved, being responsible for catering,...
-Cooking, self thought and likes to experiment in the kitchen (so far so good, never needed to order an emergency pizza)
-I am creative in finding solutions and have a strong problemsolving attitude
-I obtained a teacher's degree at university + have experience as a teacher
-I obtained a TEFL (+ have experience in teaching dutch as a foreign language)
-Quick, enthusiastic and eager learner
-Creative writing
-DJ'ing: mainly with vinyl records (going from funk/afro/soul to punk/hardcore/garage, i don't limit myself to one genre)
