Hello dear guests! My name is Thomas, I am 27 years old and I come from the French Alps.
I was lucky enough to grow up in a beautiful setting surrounded by mountains, to be able to ski before I could even walk, to watch marmots and chamois during wonderful hikes, and to go mushroom picking in the forest with my grandmother when autumn came around. These are memories of a privileged childhood that I ultimately want to preserve through new experiences and encounters, and the opportunity to live a simple and happy life.
In 2021, I graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, but I think I had lost my way a little... Rather than committing myself half-heartedly to a predetermined path, I decided to try volunteering and embarked on a tour of France by bicycle, participating in wwoofing and community projects, during which I had some of the most wonderful experiences of my life and formed some very precious friendships. For two years, I discovered a multitude of trades and skills from passionate and fascinating farmers and artisans. I opened myself up to worlds I didn't know and, in turn, fell in love with woodworking, especially carpentry.
Since 2023, I have been training and acquiring new skills in a traditional French carpentry company and on projects I carry out for friends. It's really great to be able to pass on my knowledge and put it to good use for the people around me!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

During my past experiences, I have had the opportunity to develop skills in a wide variety of fields, but it is in carpentry that I have been able to gain the most in-depth knowledge, both in terms of design and manufacture, and then roofing and insulation. In construction, I also have some knowledge of stone masonry.
In agriculture, I have worked with friends who are market gardeners, livestock farmers and bakers, who have passed on a wealth of knowledge to me, which I have tried to put into practice when I have had the opportunity, for example by planting a vegetable garden or helping out in my friends' bakery.
According to the people around me, I'm not too bad in the kitchen, especially when it comes to vegetarian cooking, and I hope to have the opportunity to discover lots of new recipes and ways of cooking as I travel!
In fact, I generally love exchanging skills and knowledge, and I'm always curious to learn new things and improve my skills. I also find it incredible to contribute to the projects of people who have brilliant ideas, commited projects that put human and nature back at the centre of concerns. In fact, I would even say that this is the most important thing in my eyes. I am always ready to get involved and give my best when the projects and the people behind them convince me.

Generally speaking, I am quite adaptable and find it fairly easy to adjust to my hosts' lifestyle, and I enjoy sharing in their activities when invited. I am always up for a board game, watching a film, chatting, and sometimes I am also happy to relax with a book. As much as possible, I love exploring, hiking, cycling, and discovering the unique features of each place I visit! And as a bonus, if the opportunity arises, I would love to learn how to ride a horse, sail, or even paraglide (not all at once).
