Hi.
My name is Jane. I'm a single mum of a beautiful teenage daughter, who is starting to make her own way in life and I feel that now is the time I can start to explore alternative lifestyles that I hope to take up once she's no longer fully dependent on me.
I have a dream to find a piece of land where I can build an eco-house and live off-grid, sustainably and as near to self-sufficiently as possible.
At the moment that dream is so far away because I'm working in administration and need to keep my job to keep a roof over our heads.
I've joined Workaway to get first-hand experience of the life I'm aiming to live - to see if I really could do it (especially as I'll be on my own).
I'd love to help out with any projects that are just starting up and I'd also like to experience life at more established projects, so I can see what could be achieved. I'd enjoy helping with any type of gardening or building works (though roofing might be a challenge due to my fear of heights - but I'll give it a go). I've tried reading about permaculture, rainwater harvesting systems, composting toilets, etc, but only reading about it isn't really very helpful. I would like to see and help with these things first-hand. So I'm ideally looking for hosts who are totally off-grid and trying to live in harmony with nature/natural systems as much as possible. I'd also love to meet people who have managed to do this with limited funds, to see what is achievable with very little money.
I'm vegetarian, trying to go vegan but being advised that I need dairy products (calcium) whilst going through menopause!
I don't smoke and would like to stay with hosts who also do not smoke and do not allow smoking at their place.

Wherever I travel I like to learn at least the basics of the local language, so I would love it if you can help me to learn the language of the country you are based in. Currently I'm interested in Spain, so am trying to learn a few words of Spanish but my pronunciation is probably very bad!

I love gardening, reading, creative writing and swimming. I love to sing (maybe not quite in tune!) and to be around musical people - I'm in awe of anyone that can play a musical instrument! Word-based board games, like scrabble, are my favourite.
