  • Description

Hello workaway world!! My name is Sophia Krivoruchko. I am a chef, helper, manual labor do-er, cleaner, gardener, learner, constructor, wood chopper, grass cutter, and more. What motivates me is people, community, language, and nature. I love learning the local language where I go, telling a good story, and cooking a good meal. I would consider myself capable at anything I set my mind to, which is why I am solo traveling until December. I was living in Bologna, Italy in a big flat sharing last year, then traveled SE Asia for 4 months, and now I am in the Balkans connecting with my Slavic roots!

My adoration for learning new things, especially languages, dictates every other aspect of my life because I strive to learn more about people and their specific culture and language. This cultural exchange and story telling brings me pure happiness and is when I feel most alive. Currently I am still learning Italian, Russian, Serbian, and French because it motivates me to keep in touch with friends and family who speak these languages.

I am also a very hard worker and love manual labor and helping at any project. I can. Being raised by a Russian father and Californian mother, I am accustomed to working hard and having fun too... I have been raised doing many acticities like gymnastics, rowing, football, hiking, and biking. Honestly, I love the rewarding and satisfying feeling after a long day of work. Because of my active background, I am suited for construction/building, gardening, carrying things, cutting grass, chopping wood, cleaning, and maintenance -- or anything you need help with!

My motivation for preserving the environment goes down deep into my core. Even the feeling of using a plastic bag twice gives me pride. Because I grew up gardening, cooking for a family of 40, building my grandmas house, and volunteering for for food banks, I have always had a spirit and passion for interacting directly with the environment and my local community. My personal experiences with wildlife and nature from upbringing in the mountains of California has made me build an awareness for the environment and encouraged me to take action towards preserving the environment through individual action such as studying environment science and policy, joining a biofuels cloud to make biodeisel out of kitchen oil, and being politically active in my community to help pass environmental legislation. I can bring all these ideas into any workaway experience. Not only that, but nature simply brings me happiness and peace!

My motivation to analyze and solve problems is how I find my sense of purpose. Because motivation is goal oriented, it involves a desire to achieve an outcome which also requires energy. Solving problems, big and small, enables me to identify and take advantage of opportunities to learn more about myself and others. It it much more about the journey than the result. It brings me happiness to know the effort and energy I’ve put into a project and to solve a problem.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

My expertise is problem solving, manual labor, building and construction, cooking, gardening, community building, and positive energy. I am very adaptable, I can work with both people, the land, food, and animals. I have experience living in a few communities in different parts of the world and love the dynamics and complexities of a community -- everyone working together as a team and lifting each other up. I am able to work within a team well, as both a leader and a member. I love to bring positive energy, motivation, engage in fulfilling conversation, and bring some good laughs.

  • Autres infos...

I am athletic and love backpacking in the mountains, hiking, running, camping, biking, skiing, football, and more. I cannot live life without activity which is why I also love manual labor.

I am passionate about cooking vegan and vegetarian dishes (but also meat) from all different cultures. I love cooking big meals for 10 peoole, foraging for food (mushrooms, fruits, spices) and cleaning (it's methodical). I have made a goal for myself this year to cook as many different cuisines as I can.

I love to journal my life, scrapbook (a fun resourceful game for me to turn waste into art), read, crochet, and paint.

I am passionate about public transport and take as many buses, trains, and ride shares as I can to limit my car usages and flights. Hitchhiking too!
