Description

My name is Sofia, I'm a biologist who decided to go towards the path of education. I love nature, and once every 2 weeks, me and my canine buddy Yoda have to go to nature, and do some birdringing and bird watching. We both love hikes and to discover new places, and meet people who are open minded and also connected to nature. I have a lot of interests, from music, to languages and biology, and I love to talk and share ideas. At home, I am responsible for a birdringing station, and manage a folk dance group.
I decided to join workaway as a recommendation of my best friend who has been doing it for the past 2 years, and had only good experiences. Because I am travelling with my dog, I am looking for short stays (2 weeks max) and closer to our homecountry. I would love to experience living and working in an animal farm, but I'm open to other jobs related to education, chidren or agriculture.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am very flexible and can adjust to any sort of environment: my professional career involved working in South Africa with meerkat bioacustics, to content manager of a social media.

I am very patient and love children, and to teach, either children or adults. My last 6 years have been about education. I love teaching and practicing languages.

I can speak english, portuguese, and can manage spanish, even though not fluently. But it's so similar to Portuguese, that I know it will not take me long until I feel confortable. I can understand french and speak a bit of dutch too.

I am experienced with manipulating birds, due to my birdringing job, and have worked with rodents, meerkats and other mammals during my time in rescue centers and internships in biology.

I am resilient. If I commit to do something, I'll go through it to the end!

Finally, being on my own for many years has taught me to be a DIY person: I can change a tire, assemble furniture, install curtains. I love working with tools and trying to solve problems!

I am looking for short stays closer to my hometown, since I am travelling with my dog Yoda. Yoda is a very friendly boxer/bulldog to everyone, but likes to be the center of attention, so he needs a bit of time and patience, if he is to share a space with other dogs. He is a a reactive dog, which means if the contacts with a friendly and patient dog, he will be chill with them. He also needs a bit of more space with children under 5 yo, but with time, he can be their best friend.

Yoda is more than happy to stay indoors, in a private room or my car during my working hours , sleeping all day, that's his favorite hobby! He is also very flexible, and can rest everywhere, as long as it's nice, shady and cool! We are used to travel together and sleep everywhere!
