Description

Hi,

I'm Simon.

My last 2 years have made me change mindset.

I used to be mainly office bound in my role of Commercial Sales Manager for a beauty products wholesaler.
I was head hunted from my previous company to set up the business, and successfully grew the business to a turnover of £10 million.

I resigned from this position recently, after 8 years in the role, without a great deal of security, but with a deep desire for freedom and to be outdoors wherever possible.
I am very adaptable, physically fit, and very happy to do any manual work.

I spent 6 years in the building trade with a domestic building firm, who did roofing, plumbing, flooring, groundworks, extensions ,etc, so happy to help with DIY / building projects.

I have just returned from a sailing trip with my younger brother Oliver, whose sailing boat we sailed from Southampton, all the way round the Isle of Wight and back.
Before and during the trip we discussed Portugal, and particularly workaway opportunities there. We decided that we should do this imminently.

I have started to learn Portuguese, so would love help to speak the language fluently.

I just want to be with people who can, and are doing inspirational things, and hopefully add value to their projects.
Very interested in food growing projects and keep to learn accordingly.
I'm hard working, I'm outgoing, and I will be blessed to work with my hosts.

Introducing Oliver:

My name is Oliver and I love being in Portugal. I spent 3 months in Oliveira do Hospital, Coimbra from November 2022 to February 2023 which was an amazing experience. I intend to spend as much time as possible in this beautiful Country and I will then achieve residency as soon as I can. I have started to learn the language however I am definitely a beginner with a keen interest in becoming fluent.

When I left school I spent 3 years as a bricklayer/landscaper, building house extensions and landscaping some beautiful gardens and driveways. I have also fully renovated 2 of my own houses and therefore my building skills are pretty good although I must learn more about the Portuguese methods of building houses.

I qualified as an Engineer in the Automotive industry in 2001 and spent 22 years managing Engineering companies all around the world and therefore my background is quite varied and I have a lot of experience in various aspects of production, engineering etc. I love to work on interesting projects and the most interesting projects to me are the development projects in Portugal, developing land, buildings and designing an amazing way to live freely.

My favourite hobby is sailing and I have been very lucky to do do 4000 miles on our beautiful Seas over the last 2 years which has been an amazing learning curve and adventure.

My favourite word is "freedom" and I love to focus on living life as nature intended. I love the idea of being self sufficient ie growing our own food, living off the land and being free. My aim is to live in Portugal within 3 years with my family and therefore working on your project will be an amazing experience. I look forward to meeting you and adding value to your amazing project.
