Hi there!
I'm Sergey, 67, from St. Petersburg, Russia. I'm a retired widower. I'm well-educated and inquisitive. I have wide social interests. I love math, philosophy, literature, music, hiking, biking, swimming, and physical activity. Sometimes, I play my guitar.
I have two adult sons. The oldest one is a composer, sound designer and IT engineer. He is married and the father of two beautiful princesses (4 and 7), my beloved granddaughters. They relocated to Germany in 2022 for obvious reasons. The youngest also works in IT. He is still staying in St. Petersburg. He is not married yet.
I have been a real homebody much of my life, but in 2020, for the first time since 2003, I left my country to visit Georgia and Armenia.
I'm not just a curious sightseer. I'm eager to learn about and explore new countries and engage in diverse cultures. In the winter of 2020 I drove to Georgia and Armenia by car. Before the journey, I’d read a lot about the history and culture of these ancient countries. I lived with Georgian and Armenian families and had the opportunity to get closer to the habits and traditions of the local people. I drove more than 7000 km in 1 month, but it was worth it. My month-long trip turned into an incredible adventure.
Over the past almost three years, many dramatic changes have occurred worldwide.
February 2022, splits my life into before and after. My old life is no longer possible.
I am trying to shed my former ties and connections in this new environment and become a full-time traveller.
That is why I’m here.
I started travelling in September 2023. I visited Germany and the Netherlands where I had my first positive experience as a Workawayer. Optionally I visited Latvia, Portugal and Turkey.
I was lucky to meet amazing hosts in the little village of Krekow, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. I’ll never forget the concert in the old German Inn of Bülowssiege (Ein Gutshof der deutschen Romantik). It was a nice “old friends” hang out with laughter, hugs, beer, sausages, and dancing💃. The local band played Beatles songs🎸
I was next taken to the small town of Strasburg, where I became a tenor in a local choir for one night😲. I was given notes for J.S. Bach's "Ich steh an deiner Krippen hier" and tried very hard to sing correctly. It was fun!
The rest of the time I helped to build "der Schaffstall" (the sheepfold).
I know that my hosts were pleased with my work. This was a wonderful start to my new life. Thank you, Caro and Hagen🙏
Ligia and Henrik became my next hosts. I stayed with them from the beginning of October 2023 until mid-November.
They provided me with a nice room upstairs and perfect amenities. Ligia is a great cook. Every lunch and dinner was a yummy and healthy feast. I found out what vegan food looks like. Once I also had a chance to demonstrate my cooking skills. I cooked a borscht which they liked a lot.
We had conversations almost every dinner. My hosts were patient and kind. I learned about healthy lifestyles and mental health because Ligia is a certified professional psychotherapist practising medical dance therapy. I highly recommend visiting her website to learn more about dance therapy. https://ligia-dana.com
An additional advantage was the location. It is just an hour away by public transport from the town where my son's family lives because I cannot bear to be apart from my granddaughters for a long time.
I visited my family every weekend and enjoyed walking and playing with my little princesses. I could also let the parents go shopping, to the cinema or a restaurant. One of the weekends Ligia and Henrik threw a party and invited my family. We had a delightful lunch, and the little girls enjoyed jumping on the trampoline, riding a wooden horse, and playing with the toys they gave them.
My son and daughter-in-law have made new friends in Germany and are still in touch.
Thank you so much Ligia and Henrik🙏
Since I cannot freely travel within the EU, my next trip occurred only in March 2024. But first I stayed in Antalya, Turkey for a couple of weeks, just like a normal visitor, not a workawayer. Surely I'm the only Russian person who has never been to Turkey 😀. I booked a nice room and pretended to be a tourist. I had been visiting architectural landmarks, roaming the old town, testing local restaurant meals, and behaving like a tourist. But if some person "walks like a tourist, talks like a tourist, dressed like a tourist", it still doesn't mean he is a real tourist😜, like me. I was once again convinced that this was not my lifestyle. Last three days I eagerly waited for the flight to Berlin.
I was more than rewarded. I spent a month with an amazing family in a stunning place in the centre of Germany. I was surrounded by attention and care all the time I spent there. I felt at home. When I left, we arranged to meet again.
I would have stayed longer, but I had to leave for a little village in the middle of Zeeland, Netherlands.
I was lucky because I had a wonderful host again. She was very kind, attentive and intelligent. Iris has an energetic personality and a brisk inquisitive mind. There was always something to talk about, whether it was art, literature or the restoration of an old barn. She provided me with an e-bike and we rode around the local dikes and polders. And my dream has come true there one day. I travelled to Amsterdam to visit the Van Gogh Museum. I consider Van Gogh the best artist ever.
Last autumn I decided to leave things as they were. I didn't try to find another host and stayed in a beautiful German village, where I had everything I could ever dream about, where my help was needed and where I could enjoy communication with my hostess and her children.
I'd never been to Montenegro but this wonderful Balkan country attracts me for a long time.
What else? What am I looking for? What am I aspiring to?
I have already started a full-time life as a traveller and joined the workaway community. I've currently got a Schengen visa and left St.Petersburg. I'm travelling to Montenegro now.
What can I do for the host?
People consider me very resourceful in many different areas.
I am a handyman. I’ve built many things in my house on the shore of Chudskoye Lake (Peipus See) and love any DIY project. I can also help with gardening and landscaping. I’m used to this work and won't need to ask many questions while working. I'm having fun while getting stuff done.
I don’t love cooking, but my cooking skills will satisfy you if you’re not picky.
I love children. I raised two sons and I know what it means. I have always been a very caring and attentive father. We are still close to each other, although the eldest is already 37 and has his own family.
That is all for now. Thank you for reading my profile. Hopefully, I didn’t bore you too much. Feel free to contact me and ask any questions.Centres d’intérêt
