Hey there!
My name is Sandra and since I took my first flight (lucky me, it was long haul and I had a window-seat) when I was just 10 years old, I deeply fell in love with the act of traveling and more specifically with getting to spend all those hours both at the airports and at the plane when flying.
To me, it's mostly about the journey, experiences and people you cross paths with rather than about the destination. Always trying my best saying 'Yes' more often to new adventures, getting out of my comfort zone and seeking discomfort.
Life is meant to be lived to the fullest; to get to wander the road less traveled, wonder and question what it is that I know, to get to meet new people (make real connections), experience their culture and traditions (and food ofc, I love food), have fun while learning new things (languages, new recipes or a new skill), and have the ability to stand back up after failing as many times as needed!
Just being by and spending quality time along Mother Nature is one of my biggest hobbies (no matter if by myself or accompanied by friends or even strangers "friends who I haven't met yet").
I love hiking and the outdoors the most, I also like to hug trees every now and then, take cold baths in freezing waters, and stare to a starry night sky seeing the Aurora dancing above me. Most of the time, a camera follows me wherever I go, since I do like to capture the world as I see and experience it.
I thrive in environments where there is like-minded and motivated people (that want to do spontaneous things just because, who share their life stories -highs and lows-, who crave deeper conversations, and those who marvel themselves just with anything), and at the same time I do also thrive in those environments where it is only me, myself and I (whereas strolling in nature, doing yoga or meditation, reading or even watching a movie.
And since my first Workaway experience*, I have decided it is now time, after having been traveling and volunteering** around to several different countries (my own too), I have decided to come back again and become a member of this beautiful platform, Workaway.
*It was in Sweden for the span of 5 months -back in 2014-, with the lovliest family I could have ever asked for at their 'farm' ( with whom still nowadays I call them 'my family from Sweden', and with whom I keep in contact and had the greatest pleasure of meeting them again in the summer of 2021! I almost cried of pure joy).
**I moved to Iceland back in August 2018 (for 4 months) to join a Long Term Volunteering (LTV) project -about photography- and there I met many wonderful human beings from all around the world. I also moved to (northern) Sweden again back in October 2020 (for 9 months) to join a European Solidarity Corps (ESC) internationalization-centered project and there I got to learn more Swedish (which I am still looking forward to improve).
In this very moment, and in regards to short-term travel (from few days up to a couple weeks) I am open to join pretty much any project that has some outdoor work, gardening, house chores and is close to natural settings. In such cases I can both give back and be of service to the local project/family and also go explore the surrounding nature while exchanging stories and learning from each other. Whereas in regards to long-term travel (+1 month stay), I am mostly searching for experiences that will teach me more about hospitality and tourism in the eco and sustainability field that have some sort of customer service activity involved -my field of expertise (always in international environments)- centered mostly at hostels and lodges as a receptionist, as a guiding tour or whatever other service the client may need, or with NGOs working on the environmental and/or social justice fields.
I am looking for opportunities that will allow me to on the one hand, contribute to meaningful projects wherever they may be in the world, grow both professionally and as a person, and hopefully, do so rather part time or less than full time, thus allowing me to keep up with my university studies. For those curious ones, I am doing a International Relations Degree!Centres d’intérêt
