Description
Hi all!
We are two current seasonal workers and friends living in the temperate Pacific Northwestern United States. We both share a passion for ecology, the outdoors, and sustainability. We find joy in activities like hiking, exploring natural landscapes, and contributing to environmental conservation. We’re open to new experiences and love learning about different cultures and ways of life. Whether it’s through eco-projects, habitat restoration, wildlife conservation, or sustainable farming, we’re always eager to grow and make a positive impact on the world around us.
Zoe (24) has a Biology degree concentrating on ecology, evolution, and conservation, and experience working on a farm and doing habitat restoration in Hawai’i. Ruby (23) has a degree in Earth Sciences, with experience researching watersheds of small island Caribbean nations. We currently work as ecology field technicians, researching the forest ecosystems of the United State’s West Coast. We are accustomed to working outdoors, navigating difficult terrain in the sun and rain. Our job is seasonal, so we want to use our off-season time to travel and explore new corners of the world!
We are interested in learning about sustainable living, permaculture farming, Maori culture, local native flora and fauna. We would love the chance to snorkel, swim in rivers, kayak, hike, sightsee, and meet new friends.
Happy to provide hosts with more information about us and our background and workaway goals.Langues parlées

Combined skills:
As field technicians, we have a lot of experience working outdoors in adverse weather and terrain. We are physically fit and are used to hiking with heavy equipment, working with a variety of hand tools, and navigating remote areas.
Our main focuses include identifying native plants, small mammal monitoring, insect collection, algae sampling, monitoring river behavior and more. Happy to go into more detail about any facet of this sampling that might be relevant or interesting to you!
We are comfortable with common household renovation skills like painting, putting up shelves, simple fixes to appliances, and simple car maintenance, and happy to learn anything more advanced. We have basic to intermediate cooking skills, and have lived independently/with roommates for several years.
Individual skills:
Zoe!
Habitat restoration in Hawai’i. Removed invasive species and planted native trees, shrubs, and groundcover. Monitored plant growth and made changes as needed for plant health. Collected seeds from native plants in the local area and grew them in our plant nursery. Took cuttings and propagated plants in the nursery. Outplanted these plants when they were hardened.
Sustainable Farm in Hawai’i. Worked in the garden bed area, platning and harvesting produce like eggplants, tomatoes, and squash. Led volunteers in weed removal, especially grass.
Albatross sanctuary volunteer with Pacific Rim Conservation. Removed invasive plants within the predator exclusion fence at the Albatross sanctuary so that the birds could enjoy a native habitat to mate and produce offspring.
Ruby!
Performed field duties on the island of Saint Lucia, and collected a variety of interdisciplinary measurements of watershed physical characteristics and biological health.
Conducted scenario-based hydrologic modeling of past and future storm events, to evaluate the impacts of sea level rise caused flooding on the watersheds of small island developing nations.
Have worked in the food service industry on and off for a decade. I love learning from and working with people of all backgrounds, as well as the fast problem solving nature that comes from waitressing.Âge
