Hello! My name is Rick. I am an adventurous, positive, open minded and hard-working young man from the Netherlands. I've spent the last three years learning various skill sets to become a professional regenerative farmer, and I just finished my first season running my own farm. Now that winter has arrived and my garden is falling asleep I've decided to take a break for the first time in 2 years, to enjoy the mountains, lifestyle, comfortable climate and amazing ecosystems of the canary islands. After this break (half december) I will go back home to start planting my own food forest and expanding my vegetable garden, preparing for next season. Furthermore I enjoy hiking, fitness, nature, football, gardening, photography, and I have a passion for learning about plants and ecology.

I have a big passion for botany, and I am very interested in learning about anything that plants can do (i.e. application in building/tools, medicinal, nutritional, cultural and spiritual value). I would love to expand my knowledge regarding permaculture, urban farming, regenerative agriculture and farmlife in general.

I grew up in a semi-urban environment and I am really curious about rural life in different countries. For me, a rural environment represents freedom, life and space. I have always adored farms and their plants, animals, tools, buildings, land and surroundings.

I am also very curious about ways of life that are new to me. I find it amazing that it is possible through Workaway to live with locals for a short while, and to share knowledge and views on life. I love new experiences and meeting new people from different cultures, as I've already learned so much from this in the past. I like to create, and to live a peaceful, healthy, and sustainable lifestyle. And of course, I love to have fun (but that probably goes for anybody) :).

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I'm a professional regenerative farmer and I love creating diverse, aestethic edible landscapes. Huge passion for plants and figuring out how they grow, what they need and facilitating relationships between the plants, their surroundings and animals (including humans). I'm good at observing the land and reading the landscape. I am physically quite strong, hard-working, precise, caring and trustworthy. I think am pretty good at problem solving, and I simply really enjoy building, fixing and creating things. I'm not scared of physical labour, as I like to feel useful and a bit tired at the end of the day :). I also know a thing or two about nutrition and physical exercise!

I'll try to summarize my assets a little bit, so you can get a better understanding of what my strengths are:
- I have 'green fingers', as mentioned before. I've been growing plants pretty much since I was able to walk.
- I am educated, I completed my bachelor's degree in applied biology and I am a self-taught regenerative farmer.
- I love to be around animals, especially dogs. We have a Golden Retriever at home who I love to the moon and back. I also have some experience with other animals, and I am not quickly scared.
- Fluent in English and Dutch, and improving my Spanish every day.
- I always try to put at least pressure as possible on my environment. Therefore I prefer to live and travel sustainably by eating local, avoiding plastic, consuming less meat, using public transport and trying to educate myself more.

I grew up in the city of Zwolle in The Netherlands with my twin brothers, my parents and my dog Tjango. I absolutely love plants and gardening and am very keen to share my knowledge and help others with their projects.
