My time with Francesc was brief but nourishing. This was my first WorkAway experience and I'm so glad it was with Francesc!

He demonstrated very timely responses and good communication, from the very start. He sent me information about how to arrive to Lleida, where he offered to pick me up. And he did exactly that! He, so kindly, picked me up in … read more Lleida, and we headed to his tiny village, Aitona.

Coming from Madrid, Aitona was a stark contrast. Firstly, he lives in Catalonia where they speak Catalan. Secondly, and lastly, Aitona is TINY. If you're looking for quiet and solitude, this is the place to come. Though it only takes 20 minutes to get to Lleida by car, it takes an hour+ to get there by bus. So get used to staying put.

Francesc's place is beautiful! It's built into the hillside and is 3-stories tall. He has two rooms for you to choose from. There's one that share's a wall with the hillside, and the other that shares the quiet street. I opted for the street view, because it had a window to let in fresh air. Though, during the day, I had to keep it closed because he had "brick-layers" who were working on the house the whole time I was there! It got pretty dusty and hard to breathe, and it was noisy but not unbearable. The bedroom was comfortable and I was happy to have a private room to myself! The bed wasn't comfy and I had a hard time getting comfortable, but it's a safe, quiet and substantial. Every night I was there, Francesc cooked us dinner! He always beat me to it, too... I wanted to cook for us but was never thinking about it before he was. He'll say that he's not a good cook, but he surprised me!

His sister and his two daughters came by over the weekend I was there. He has a beautiful, kind, generous, and funny family! I went on a walk with his sister and she helped me with my Spanish, which I appreciated since that's why I'm in Spain. I also got to go on a few walks with Francesc, and he showed me the town farms where we ate fresh almonds, walnuts, and figs!

Everyday, for about 2-4 hours, I spent with Francesc helping him with his English. He's at an intermediate level, which shows. There weren't many times that I needed to correct him. He's eager to learn and it shows. It was very easy to do this exchange with him! He was also so sweet and played Spanish Trivia Pursuit, so I could practice my Spanish.

Francesc is such a sweet man. He's a very simple man. And he's very content. I really enjoyed my week-long experience with Francesc at his beautiful home, in his quaint village. Thank you for having me Francesc! I hope we see each other again sometime! Please come visit me in California :)
