  • Description

    Hi There!

I’m Natasha, I’m 37 years old, from London, England. I love people, community, children, animals and nature. I love the great outdoors in all its varied forms.

I'm travelling around Central and South America until April 2023, returning to the UK for the summer to work, and then onto Nepal, India and beyond from October 2023 into 2024.

I’m on a career break, taking a more nomadic approach to life over the next couple of years. I sold my flat and quit my job to get out of the rat race and embark on an adventure to learn new skills and reconnect with nature. I’m friendly, love meeting new people, learning different skills and relish overcoming obstacles and challenges.

My adventure started last year - in July 2022 I completed a solo through-hike of the Great Britain (Lands End - John O Groats), over 1300 miles in 3 months, predominantly camping along the way. It’s amazing how far you can get just putting one foot in front of the other. This hike was my longest to date, it taught me a lot about being practical, self sufficient, how to overcome difficulties and helped me developed a lot of patience!

Aside from walking quite far, I also enjoy keeping fit through Wing Chun and Shaolin Kung Fu, Qi Gong and Yoga. I like to relax by reading, listening to music and meditation. I have a good balance between an interest in science and education alongside philosophy and spiritual practice. I am interested in finding out more about sustainable and alternative community living. I am open minded, liberal, responsible and dependable.

The past few years have bought significant changes in my perspective about what is important so I’m taking some time out to re-evaluate what new direction I want to take in my life and career. Do I want to run a hostel? Start a walking tour company? Live in another country? Join a sustainable alternative living community? Work in conservation? Continue working with children and families? So many questions, so many options! It can be hard to know where to start - so workaway seemed the perfect way to try new skills and experiences. Travelling and volunteering seems as good an idea as any!

    Skills I can offer:

    - Housework and cleaning. I love cleaning. No really I do. I’m really good at it. Any general housework is absolutely fine by me!

    - Cooking: I am proficient at feeding myself and friends and can cook basic tasty healthy meals. Im not a trained chef but I have completed food hygiene and food safety courses. Im a good set of extra hands in a kitchen and make an excellent pot-washer!

    - General DIY, I’m good at painting, sanding, polishing, basic furniture up-cycling. I have maintained my own home over a number of years and maintained a residential home for parents and children needing support. Great at painting fences, walls, windows, sanding worktops, varnishing, oiling, etc etc. If I haven’t done something before I am pretty good at learning new skills and knowing who to ask/where to look to find out the best approach.

    - Gardening / Work outdoors. I had a small garden in the UK, I enjoy growing fruit and vegetables (with varying degrees of success with limited sunshine!). I am also experienced in manual work around garden grounds & allotments. Mowing, digging, pruning, composting, planting, building beds from pallets, mulching, harvesting. I enjoy organic and sustainable approaches and love learning about local and indigenous plants, trees, medicines, insects, animals and ecosystems.

    - Animal care: I have always lived with cats and dogs and love all animals. I am happy to feed pets/livestock, muck out barns/coops/pens, collect eggs, fill troughs etc.

    - Childcare & Parenting support: I can provide attuned childcare for children of all ages, including young babies. I create fun games and am good with art and crafts, I encourage imaginative play, and learning in line with their own capabilities and development, make learning fun, implement routines and boundaries etc.
I have always had wonderful relationships with the children in my life, both at work and at home - I've been told I am great with kids, particularly those under 10.
I have volunteered at homework clubs for refugees, mentored at a support centre for women and children from deprived areas. I am also a registered social worker in the UK, specialising in support for children and families and child protection. I have experience delivering parenting programmes and working directly with children of all age groups (0-18). I have excellent knowledge of child development, children’s needs, and parenting approaches. I also often look after my friend's children, including my much loved godson, Louis, who is now 6.

    - Administration and organisation: I am very experienced in managing a heavy workload and have developed excellent organisation skills. I am responsive and able to pick up new skills quickly. I have a background in small businesses and have good general administration skills. I also have a law degree (UK Law). I am good at understanding legal arguments and putting together formal correspondence.

    - Hospitality: I am great with people and am able to pick up a range of skills, able to work front of house, bar work, serving customers. Previous experience in retail and hospitality services.

    - Creative: I love art, music, crafts. I love to paint and have completed murals in the past for friends and in my own home. I also love making things such as outfits/headdresses for festivals and events.

    - Project management: I have experience in managing groups of people to complete various projects. I managed a residential home for young parents. My role included health and safety, following regulations and implementing routine risk assessments, basic maintenance, cleaning, teaching key skills, managing and supervising a team of permanent and temporary staff, organising events, planning tailored support packages and networking with charities and resources in the local community.

    - First aid trained.

Im happy to arrange a video call over Skype or Zoom if you would like to find out more or discuss anything further.
