Hallo, I‘m Mara, a woman from Germany, in the age of 67

I'm healthy and fit and have a lot of experience - in life and travel. My adult children, the grandchildren and the young refugees, which them I'm still working sometimes keeps me young. My profession is studied social worker and therapist for children with dyslexia. The last eight years I worked with young refugees from Afghanistan. Most time during the last 20 years I worked self-employed.

My first experience with workaway I had in autumn 2022 in Italy (Tuscany). It was such a great time with my host Mevanya and the other young workawayers, I had never forgot. Also my time in May 2023 in southern part of France was so incredible good, that I've decided to continue my time with workaway. This year I will visit the north-eastern and eastern part of Germany.

Be sure, I can help in kitchen with cooking and all things mentioned household, there is a lot of experience. I'm also able to paint walls and work with wood. That means I can do light drilling work and I'm not afraid of working and helping with saws and grinders. I can also do simple tiling work.

But what I prefer to do and to LEARN as a workawayer now, are quite different things: It could be working on a farm. Perhaps learning to milk goats and learn to make cheese or helping to shear sheep. Another thing of great interest is learning Permaculture and also helping to restore old houses - preferably in a larger group with people of different ages and abilities. I would also like to learn more about woodworking from a carpenter.


I like reading, travelling, cooking and eating good natural food, also to be and to work outside in nature together with friendly and peaceful people.

My other interests are politics, history, psychology, architecture, philosophy, art,...

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I can offer you helping in kitchen work with cooking, baking, also cleaning. I love to make cakes and the last two years I started to bake my own bread. I prefer mostly biological foodstuff.
I have experience in painting walls, etc. I can also help with simple wood working that means I’m able to build a board or to make a wooden paneling. In every case I’m a good worker to help the other more professional workers. Together with my husband we renovated two houses. I also can offer lessons in German language.

Things which I’m most interested to learn is to milk sheep and goats and to make cheese from this milk. I’m interested in learning permaculture, too. I had always a little garden, but I have never grow up my own vegetable - only fruits, herbs and flowers.

I’m nonsmoker, but I like the smell of smoking. So, it’s no problem for me to sit outside next to smokers.
I like vegetarian food, but I’m not a vegetarian. I eat less meat and these from biological animals and I love fish.

My plan is, to leave Germany round about 10th of October with my car and start with workaway at 15th of October in Slovenia, working down south to Croatia. Probably ending this year in middle of December.
Also possible to come to Italy/Sicilia or Greece/Kreta by aeroplan.....
We will see, if the plans will win or the surprise of life ;-)
