  • Description

Hoping to learn new skills while being helpful. I've previously been a host manager & worker.

I have lived in Alaska since 2020. I came up on a workaway venture escaping the pandemic life in the lower 48 and loved Alaska so much I took a job in a different area about 500 miles south and stayed - Alaska is "home" now.
I have two young dogs, an Aussie and a Golden Retriever, (they are my world); well socialized and well behaved loving wiggle butts. They have more friends in Alaska than I do, every time I move to a new town they get a fan club. They love making friends and are kind to all animals, they do chase the wild bunnies outside though - that can be trained if needed for small animals, they just are playful. Where and how we live they aren't leashed, rather trained, but we can do a leash if needed out of respect. They don't bark unless we are in immediate danger (i.e. bear/moose); the Aussie does say hi barking to some people but that's rare.
Prior to Alaska I moved every few years through various areas in different states and have some of the craziest and best stories to share sometimes. I do enjoy a good conversation.
I work as an Area Manager for a hospitality group of hotels, restaurants, charters and a park so I am extremely busy in the spring- summer season; this winter, however, I have myself in a position I can work remote part-time with my staff up here in a good place and intend on taking advantage of that with doing a trade work gig. I also would handle my own food- don't get me wrong, if you have some yummies you want to share I'd not say no, as well as I love cooking up for others - also if we're farming, foraging, hunting (I don't know how to hunt but I'd be okay with it) our own items that would be GREAT; besides that though, I would purchase all my own food, toiletries, etc..
I would like to learn homesteading skills, especially the skills that transfer to off-grid Alaska. I am great with animals, children, problem solving and hospitality business moves, however, full disclosure not mechanically inclined so I have no experience with anything manual labor (asides grunt level ranch work and basic mountaineering). If you can handle "oops" in someone being a newbie I assure you what I lack in skill I'll make up for in effort.
I'd ideally like to work part time hours, help with whatever I do, learn some things and make someone(s) life easier and still have time to hike with my dogs.
I didn't really get any free time during this past Spring- summer -fall season, so it would be nice to have that balance of both worlds.

  • Autres infos...

If I am afraid to do something, I will push through it and enjoy it!
I would also love to learn more skills using farm equipment and construction equipment.
I am very comfortable in rustic settings, dry cabins and older buildings.
I’m never afraid to get dirty and enjoy physical fitness and it’s balanced with I also like to clean up nicely and do brunch sometimes.
I have been a host and understand "shit happens" and sometimes it's just not a fit - no harm no foul just move along and smile :)
I have lived in and love cities for what they are; however, I'm currently not looking for that vibe, I'd prefer more rural settings with no traffic or noise and air pollutions.
