Description
I have always loved to travel and experience different cultures, and for the past six years I have been enjoying slow travel and taking part in Workaway experiences.
I am widowed, my children are grown and independent, and after many years in business, I am fortunate to now have the freedom to explore the world in a more meaningful way.
I enjoy staying in places long enough to experience everyday life, get to know local people, and feel part of a community rather than simply rushing from one tourist attraction to another.
I am interested in house sitting, volunteering, and opportunities to work in interesting places along the way. My years in business have taught me to be responsible, organized, adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable working with people and taking responsibility.
I am happy caring for homes and pets and enjoy contributing wherever I can. For me, volunteering and working while travelling is a wonderful way to meet people, learn new skills, and experience a country from a more authentic perspective.
I would also love to continue improving my French and Spanish by spending time in places where I can practise the languages naturally in everyday life.
After six years of slow travel, I have learned that the best experiences often come from being open to new opportunities, meeting interesting people, and stepping outside your comfort zone. I am excited to continue exploring the world, learning from different cultures, and contributing something positive wherever I go. -

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I have always loved travelling, experiencing different cultures and meeting people from all walks of life. After many years of owning and operating businesses, I now have the freedom to combine my love of travel with meaningful work, volunteering and helping others wherever I go.
I have been doing slow travel and Workaway-style experiences for the past six years and have found that I enjoy becoming part of a community rather than simply passing through as a tourist. I am independent, adaptable, hardworking and equally happy working on my own or as part of a team.
Throughout my life, I have owned and operated several very different businesses. When my two boys were small, I started a children's swimwear wholesale company, manufacturing swimwear in Hong Kong and selling it internationally.
Later, I started and ran a furniture and décor shop, Simply Cottage, in the beautiful Muskoka vacation region of Ontario, Canada. Through this business, I developed a strong interest in interior decorating, antiques and design. I worked with clients decorating summer homes and cottages and enjoyed sourcing, placing, refinishing and repurposing antique and decorative pieces.
During COVID, I returned to Canada to spend time with my mother and accepted a one-year contract with a property developer in beautiful British Columbia. As Director of Real Estate, I was responsible for selling oceanfront property and working closely with clients, visitors and the development team. My many years in retail and business have given me excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills.
I am practical, energetic and not afraid of hard work. Having renovated several houses, commercial buildings and, most recently, a church, I am comfortable painting, decorating, cleaning, organizing, lifting and tackling general maintenance projects. I enjoy physical work and getting my hands dirty. Refinishing and repurposing antiques is also a particular passion of mine.
I am an excellent organizer and enjoy decluttering, cleaning and helping to bring order to spaces that need a little attention. I am happy doing everything from general household work and gardening to painting, decorating and helping with renovation projects.
I enjoy gardening, although I would describe myself more as enthusiastic general labour than a plant expert! Fortunately, there is always Google when I need to identify something in the garden. I am happy with digging, weeding, planting, moving things and general outdoor work.
Animals have always been an important part of my life. When my boys were growing up, our home had the usual collection of dogs, fish, reptiles and small furry creatures. I have always had dogs and love being around animals. I am also an adequate horse rider and have always loved horses, although in recent years my riding has mostly been limited to trail rides.
I have been a certified scuba diver since I was 24 and have been fortunate enough to dive in some truly spectacular locations around the world.
Cooking is another of my passions. I enjoy both eating and creating all kinds of food and generally try to eat healthy, natural foods. While I am not vegetarian, I am very happy to respect other people's food choices and enjoy preparing vegetarian and vegan meals as well. I also worked in restaurants many years ago, so I am comfortable working in a busy kitchen environment.
I love amateur photography and keep an Instagram account, @muskoka-styled, mostly for my own enjoyment and to keep family and friends up to date with my travels and adventures.
I have travelled extensively on my own and am very comfortable adapting to new places and situations. Some of my longer adventures include five months camping and travelling around New Zealand and five months travelling through Central America. I enjoy slow travel because it allows me to really experience a place, get to know local people and contribute something useful while I am there.
When I am at home in Canada, I have also been actively involved in community organizations and volunteering. I enjoy being part of a community and contributing my time, energy and experience to projects that bring people together.
I would describe myself as friendly, capable, independent and energetic. I am comfortable with physical work, enjoy learning new things and am always willing to help wherever I am needed. Whether it involves caring for animals, helping around a home or property, gardening, cooking, cleaning, organizing, decorating, welcoming guests or tackling a practical project, I enjoy being useful and making a positive contribution.
For me, travelling is not simply about seeing new places—it is about experiencing how people live, becoming part of a community and hopefully leaving a place a little better than I found it. I have been lucky enough to have had some wonderful hosts some of whom I return to on a regular basis now. -
