HI THERE | HAVE FUN
We are a couple from Germany and England, Maureen [30] and Steve [32]. . We are a very easy going couple, both with a good sense of humor and always keen for a good chat.

TRAVELPLANS
Our travel plans at the moment are to travel around different farms which are based on permaculture within europe. At the moment Steve is back in England and Maureen is cycling through Portugal.

Both of us have travelled a lot which we agree, has made us even more curious about the world and the people that live in it. We have been living in Frankfurt for the past couple of years, but have now decided that we must make steps towards living our best lives, which is working towards our own piece of land where we can create a sustainable life, and also help the local community grow.

While we were living in the city, we have made a few garden projects which you can check out on our Instagram pages: permakultur.mit.maureen (Maureens profile) and _rootsforgood_ (Steves profile).

we are passionate about the environment and creating a sustainable life, with minimal waste, this is what led us to permaculture. Along our travels we have picked up new skills like handcrafting, cooking vegan & living more and more sustainably.

We love the outdoors, going on a long or short walk, playing some tunes in the grass or just staring at all the plants and trees which are popping out of the ground.

During the Covid-19 situation we couldn't stand still, and we had the urge that we needed to keep moving and learning. We kept busy in this time with some projects, like building a raised bed out of willow and bushes for Steve’s family, sewing masks for the community and crocheting plastic that the household produces into baskets or earrings. So we like to be creative, no matter what the situation.

We are highly motivated to make a difference in this world. We would love to share our knowledge and also receive it from you! One of the nicest things to have is a good community of people. We love this, as it's great to share stories, be creative and inspire each other!

WORK
while travelling i have to earn my living. Hope you can respect that. So I´m (Maureen) working remotly from Monday till Wednesday. That´s when i make the appointments with my clients. I still can do a few hours on those days but would prefer to work more hours from Thursday till Sunday. If you have a problem with someone who works long hours infront of a computer, don´t let me come to you.
Don´t worry - i´ll bring my own internet ;)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

| STEVE |

One of my best skills is that i am a quick learner. In the past i have taught myself to play guitar, which is pretty cool. Now i have a harmonica which i am trying to play. During the lockdown i learned how to crochet which i found is quite a nice skill because now i can up-cycled plastic waste and turn them into earrings.

I am a very hands on person, so i enjoy being in the garden and coming up with new ideas and then building them. I am super keen to learn heaps in the garden and keep expanding my knowledge in this area! Also I’m quite the thinker, so i would say that i am a good problem solver, which is very handy!.

I have worked with Maureen on two Permaculture farms in England. One in Todmorden, which supplied the community with vegetables, so i got to learn more about the commercial side of farming. The other farm was in Taunton, which was a young permaculture farm, still in the early stages of development. So having seen two sides of the coin, i have gainedmuch more experience, from management skills, building skills, to plant care knowledge.



MAUREEN

GARDENING
Volunteering on a permaculture site in Fiji i learned about transplanting, soil preparation, building raised beds, and mapping the site.

A small Garden in Te Anau (New Zealand) is where i learned about interplanting, vegetables in a small place around our temporary home. I grew a variety of veggies with Steve. I was also on a workaway in Coroglen (New Zealand) where i gained skills in general maintenance, planting hemp, controlling traps, and taking care of the native forest.


CHAINSAWS LICENSE
I have had a chainsaw license since 2016, and have used it frequently at home. It has also come in very handy at some of my workaways. Helping to cut firewood, trimming trees etc.


ORCHARD WORK
I worked for 5 weeks on a kiwi orchard in Awakeri-Whakatane (New Zealand). I did pruning, thinning and leader work.


FARMSTAY
When i was in Christchurch, i worked on a farm where i gained skills in animal care, feeding, moving cows, and helping with slaughtering.


HELP WITH ECO PROJECT
I worked on a workaway Project in Raglan (New Zealand). I was sawing firewood with a chainsaw, and building garden stairways in a place going to be self-sustainable.


ART PROJECT
As an architect, it's my job to create something aesthetic. Besides, I am happy and grateful to do so. And if you want, I can show you some of my work samples.


TEACHING
I unsalaried taught some young musicians for one year.


BUILDING
I am stronger than I look, since I am used to manual labour.


COOKING | SHOPPING
I might only be a hobby cook, but I know some nice and simple recipes (vegan), which most people have enjoyed it so far. I´m not really familiar with cooking meat, but i´m ok with doing so.


HELP WITH COMPUTERS | INTERNET
Through my work, I have some experience with computers, printers, the Internet and many more out of ordinary programs I used for technical drawing.

Autres infos...

We are travelling by bike and have quite a bit with us. But we sent our tent back. I can sleep in my sleepingback and hammock, if necessary. But to be honest, wouldn't turn down something warmer if possible!

  We are vegetarian, but I (Maureen) will eat anything before it gets thrown away. Steven doesn´t eat cheese but Maureen will love to eat it for him. ;)
