Hi! I am Manuela, I'm a 27-year-old Latin woman living in Austria for a year now, and I've been dreaming about volunteering with WorkAway for a very long time. For many reasons I always pushed it aside, telling myself I would do it once I was in a better situation — or some silly excuse like that — but I think it's about time. 😊

I am a graphic designer and I love everything creativity-related. I like to do things with my hands: crocheting, ceramics, painting, etc. In my work I design online campaigns for social media and also offline activations, I do branding and I give creativity workshops.

I came to Austria because I married my love and now we live together in Linz (he is not coming with me though, he is finishing his doctorate).

I enjoy traveling very much. In my free time I do yoga and meditate, I also enjoy being in nature, hiking, going on bike trips and running.

The reason I want to travel and volunteer is because I've been unemployed for a couple of months, and I have to say this time has really made me question many things. I've been working for a couple of years now, trying to be ambitious — I founded a company, I moved across the ocean, I worked remotely and did many things that were expected of me. A lot of expectations that I also put on myself, all in the name of having a successful career and life. On top of that, migrating to another country and finding myself new in so many ways, relearning everything, questioning my beliefs and my vision of the world — all of those things made me rethink what I want for my life and what I want out of it. Since being in Austria I've found refuge in my Latin community and started volunteering a lot, and I found so much joy in it. Last time I painted faces at a kids' party — even though I had never done it before in my life, I trusted myself and went along with it. The families were happy, and I was there in the middle of the chaos putting on fake tattoos and painting faces while kids were having a water fight, and I wanted to stay there forever.

I have to say I've never done any kind of farming, built a wooden house or lived on a farm. I was born in the city so many things might be new to me — but I am a very open person. I love having new experiences and learning new skills, I want to do things I've never done before. If you are willing to teach me, I am willing to be a very diligent student.

Since this is my first time doing something like this, I really don't know what else to say…

I would eat pretty much anything — I eat mostly vegetarian but I'm not strict about it.

I love being offline. I would only need some internet to call my family and my husband to catch up and talk about life a couple of times a week.

I’m not a smoker or drinker

Happy to help in anything, I am a good cooker but sometimes I put too much love in it and that love taste a bit salty

My body would appreciate physical work

You can always find in me a person ready to have deep conversations, or any conversation for that matter, I love to talk about life and share stories (I have many)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I can do anything related with marketing (videos, fotography, social media management, any kind of design for you project)

But If you’re looking for something more practical I can cook, clean and pet dogs 😂😂 I am very crafty so if you teach me I can do anything ☺️ I am also very open to any kind of physical work, I cannot say I am a machine made of pure muscle but I worked in a supermarket not so long ago lifting heavy stuff and doing physical labor so I can be helpful in anything.

I speak three lenguages, Spanish, English and German, but I prefer to communicate in English
