Description
Hello! My name is Maddie, I am 24 years old, and I am from South Australia!
I am currently travelling around Asia for a year.

Back home I grew up living on a farm with vineyards, a few sheep, chickens, turkeys and various pets. I have also lived in the city areas and found that I appreciate all types of scenery.

I see myself as being open-minded and able to adapt to new environments well. I strive for quality and efficiency in my work standard, whilst also being easy-going in nature.
I love learning new things and particularly like hands-on tasks, whether it be something small and crafty or on a bigger scale. I also really enjoy meeting new people and learning about their cultures or their views and mindsets. I find it interesting how different everyone's lifestyles are!

I am very interested in International food, cultures, traditions, lifestyles and scenery.

Past employment:

-Farm work with animals and plants and basic maintenance
-In a Cafe making coffee and food, and as a team leader (filling in for the manager)
-Working in Australian ski resorts as a ski lift operator
-Cleaning and basic gardening for guesthouses

With these experiences, I feel confident that I have a well-rounded skill set that will be useful to you.

I have done housesitting/farmsitting for a few months where I was responsible for looking after many plants and animals and absolutely loved it.
I have also done workaways and other volunteering in Australia and Japan at various farms, guesthouses, and families homes helping with gardening.

I am super excited to expand my experience further and see what adventures workaway continues to take me on!

We were so lucky to have Maddie come and stay with us, she is a really lovely young lady and we thoroughly enjoyed having her here with us on the farm for the last 4 weeks. During Maddie's time with us we had many windy days, rainy days and the occasional sunny day, so we gave her a choice of lots of different indoor and outdoor jobs, and she… read more really got a lot done. Indoor jobs included cleaning the kitchen, ironing, waxing tables, polishing silver, house sitting (and looking after our dog, Honey and chickens for a few nights) and vacuuming, but her biggest indoor achievement was cleaning, sanding back and painting a very large wall in our garage, which has made an enormous difference. It was a very boring job in a big dark room, which she chipped away at with a smile on her face, her music playing and not one complaint. Outdoor jobs included pulling up weeds, mulching lots of trees, picking up stones and bones from a newly graded and landscaped area, feeding the chickens, break burning and helping me prepare and fill several new veggie garden beds, which was a big job, with each bed requiring twenty wheel barrow loads of a mixture of two different soils. All the while, we chatted away, or worked in silence, and when our day's work was done, we'd go off and do our own things and then come together for dinner. Maddie described herself on a couple of occasions as an 'introverted extrovert': she's a listener/observer and can be quite quiet, but is absolutely up for a chat and a laugh. We are quite a loud family and she slotted in like she'd known us forever. Maddie is an early riser and when I asked her what she would like to do for her day, she would very comfortably pick and choose from the (many!) job options she had, which I loved - she just got on with things and got lots done along the way. I have really enjoyed our time with Maddie, she is as honest and as trustworthy as the day is long and I think she is a very brave and independent young woman to be travelling around on her own, moving in with complete strangers, and learning about how other families live and interact. I'm full of admiration for her and if she were my daughter, I'd be very proud of her achievements at such a young (adult) age. We wish her all the very best and we're hoping she'll call in to see how the fruits of her own labour have progressed, as the years go by, when she's travelling through Victoria and wish her all the very best. She was a big help and an absolute delight.
