  • Description

Hello, my name is Kat and nature and wild places bring me happiness! Luke and I run a rewilding not-for-profit together, which has been working with farmers and landowners to plant trees and wild their land over the last few years. I'm interested to meet like-minded people and explore alternative ways of being, knowing, living and working, in tune with nature. I have a career break from my work this year (as a project manager in the international development sector) having just finished my MSc in climate change, and I would love to use this time to help out and learn from amazing people running diverse environmentally-minded projects, particularly those involved in rewilding the land and sea, permaculture and agroforestry, and off-grid living. Outside of tree planting, I also love yoga (I am a qualified yoga teacher) and painting (I work as a part-time illustrator and portrait artist).

Hi, I'm Luke; motivated by greed, profit at all cost and the unshakable desire for ever-lasting dominion over mankind...Actually no, pretty much same as the above. I love the natural world and am powered by time spent fully connected to the landscape wandering around barefoot, shooting the breeze with hippies like you, hopefully, and doing yoga and stuff like that. I am interested in a wide variety of subjects and love many things and am a passionate, friendly and easy going person in general.
Workwise I'm a Landscaper/ General handyman and PT and like Kat mentioned we have decided to take a year working away/ travelling to experience the beauty that this world has to offer, meet amazing incredible and inspirational people to further broaden our minds and hopefully skill sets.
The rough plan is to go to as many wild/ remote places left to us on this amazing Earth and see how different rewilding and environmentally sustainable projects on the small and large scale operate. We both really want to learn and take note of how to do it. The hope being one day we will be able to set up or co-ordinate a similar affair in the future and have that sustainable- off grid living/ eco-tourism/ mindfulness retreat that is so badly needed this day and age. We are fun, affordable and environmentally sustainable! Please take us off the shelf, we've been here for ages...

Plus de détails sur les langues qui m'intéressent
Kat: I love languages and would love to improve my language skills, which I have been endeavouring to do via poetry (the more evocative the better for memory purposes!). I have set myself a challenge of being able to recite a poem in as many languages as possible, and so far I have learned some Pablo Neruda (Spanish), Matsuo Basho (Japanese), Salvatore Quasimodo (Italian), Arthur Rimbaud and Victor Hugo (French), as well as some William Blake and Christopher Marlowe (English). This however is less helpful practically and conversationally(!), and I would love to improve in this area. I'm interested in all languages, not just those above (equally, if you are able to recommend a good poet, I will eagerly study their work!).I am a qualified TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) instructor and happy to teach English as part of a language exchange. Luke: Kat is better with languages and our team translator . I try my best and am keen to learn the native tongue of the land I'm in but need to be immersed in it to learn.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

    Kat:
I have a very particular set of skills...

Through my tree planting work I am used to digging holes and am a fairly handy labourer with a particular penchant for plants. I am a researcher and project manager by day, working for a charity, and through this I have lots of experience also working as an editor (mainly for publications, but with some experience as a web editor). I would say I am fairly technically adept.

I am also a yoga teacher (with training in Hatha and Vinyasa) and a painter and illustrator (specialising as a portrait artist, but also with a love of design and abstract, psychedelic painting!).

I would say I am also a fairly reasonable cook (though always with room for improvement!) - and fairly experimental, as necessitated by being a vegetarian! It's all about the spice.

    Luke:
I don't have a particular set of skills...

I actually do lots of things and pride myself on being a generalist. By trade I'm a landscape gardener/ painter decorator and general handyman. I use all the big boy tools and have all the early signs of approaching osteo-arthritis to prove it. Have just started Step 1 toward becoming a qualified domestic electrician, which I'm super excited about, which will add another string to my bow so I'm not crippled by the time I hit 60.
Stuff I'm good at/ can do:
Building stuff and making things - carpentry, all hard and soft landscaping works.
My key skills are visualising, spacial awareness, learning quickly, planning ahead and dogged enthusiasm to see a project through to completion.
Thinking outside the box and around difficult problems with limited resources. My passion is to reuse old/ existing building materials and turn them into something useful again. Otherwise known as resourcefulness.
I'm used to giving instruction to my labourer but am also equally happy to follow them from others and do things the way you want them done. I'm collaborative in my approach to work but there does need to be some structure to it and someone in charge.
Very happy to learn, teach the things I've picked up or trade skills with you or others on site, I believe we all grow and develop best in a fun, relaxed atmosphere with mutual respect.
I will also dig holes with vengeance should the need arise and I feel sufficiently motivated.

I'm also a level 4 PT and still practise this trade, mostly just for the love and passion of seeing people achieve their goals now rather than to make bank and in another life I ran a beauty business.

    Limitations:
    Follicly challenged.

  • Autres infos...

Kat: I have a Triumph Bonneville and love bikes, impractical though they may be in the winter in the UK (or particularly my bonnie, which does not like the cold and tends not to start reliably!) - though perhaps this is not relevant information! In any case I enjoy experiencing the elements (with or without my bike), and am in the habit of carrying a spare pair of socks about my person. I'm an avid reader, an armchair philosopher, and recently learned to climb a rope, which I was quite pleased with. I am also in the habit of writing letters, though unfortunately as I have terrible handwriting, they are not widely read.

Luke: And for my part I am part Neanderthal but only 2.3%, which is only really ancestral so some people say it's not really that important and you shouldn't even bring it up. I like movement, doing stuff, chatting shit, sitting around a camp-fire, exercise, breathwork, reading, quiet contemplation time and going on really long hikes that stretch you a bit but don't completely destroy your knees. I like all animals, including some friendly, well humoured humans and by extension all living things right down to insects and bacteria and stuff. I'm mostly veggie these days but I'm not a vegetarian, judge away but please don't hate me. I know I said love animals but yes I will also eat them occasionally, its a dichotomy. I'm only human! Kat's a higher order thinker than me and all around my better half. But we come as a package deal. Peace and love L & K. Xx
