Hello!
My name is Mary "Katie" Philpott. I am 30 years old, and I currently work in the US as a speech-language pathologist.
I love to travel, meet new people, and try new things. Some of my previous workaway experiences include au pairing in Italy when I was 19, and surf instructing in Costa Rica in 2019. These experiences were so rich! I got to meet amazing new people who I still keep in contact with. I also learned a lot about myself and how to interact with all types of people as well being content in quiet moments. In my free time, I enjoy all outdoor activities, but I especially love surfing, snowboarding, horseback riding, playing futbol, hiking, etc. I also enjoy spending time in coffee shops, reading, journaling. A goal of mine is to become more musical and (hopefully) learn how to play the ukele.
I am traveling to Mexico with the goal of improving my Spanish (and of course meeting new people and experiencing all that Oaxaca has to offer). I am hoping to take courses at Instituto Cultural Oaxaca. Ideally, I'd like to spend several months in Oaxaca.

I am a native English speaker and always interested in helping other learn. I am also conversational in Spanish. One of my goals in coming to Oaxaca is to become fluent in Spanish so that I can become a bilingual speech-therapist.

I am a huge people person! I love getting to know other people knowing that there is so much to learn from those who are different from me. At home, I enjoy hosting others in my home, organizing game nights, and I am trying to learn how to cook for larger groups.
Acquiring a masters degree taught me the importance of time management, organization, diligence, and hard work. Aside from working as a speech language pathologist in the US. I have also worked for several years in the food service industry as a waitress. I have also worked as a ski instructor, surf instructor, and nanny.
I am a hard worker and always open to learning new skills!
