Hello, Olá,

My name is Joaquim, I'm 19 years old (20 in April) and I'm currently on my year out, which I have decided to spend working and traveling around the world.

My goal with Workaway is to broaden my knowledge in different cultures and to get the chance to work along side the local people from around the world.

I love helping people with their day to day lives, whether it be cooking or doing simple chores around the house, I'm always willing to lend a hand. I love taking care of children or assisting the elderly, helping other people has always given me a sense of pride and responsibility, that's why I love it.

I'm also not afraid to get my hands dirty, whether it means helping with restorations, building a new storage house or digging up earth in the fields, I really enjoy doing manual labor. Being tall also helps with projects that require you to work upwards, at home its not uncommon for my father to ask for my assistance when putting up a new light bulb or a tapestry on the wall. And with a healthy physic I'm more then capable and comfortable in working hard for long periods of time.

Childhood until now

I grew up Mozambique, Africa, where I studied in an English school until the age of 10.5. Mozambique is a beautiful country with savanna, forests, mountains and sea, and where I lived (Pemba) was right by the ocean. My parents, Mum (English) Dad (Portuguese), had come here 4 years prior to my birth, to start a business in the tourism and trading industries.
We left in 2014 to come live in Portugal, my parents had begun to get a little bored in the city we lived in and my Portuguese grandfather had passed away the year before, so my father wanted to come here to be closer to his family. Since then we have been living in the Setubal district in the centre of Portugal.

I like to pride myself as someone who is very out going. I love doing things, whether it's playing football, going on walks, cooking, going to the beach, hanging out with friends or making videos and taking pictures. I'm very easy to talk and personally enjoy interacting with people. I'm a calm person who will always try to find the positivity and happiness in people and in my day-to-day life.
As mentioned before, I like to make videos and post them online, as well as taking pictures on my camera wherever I go. In fact I like it so much, I decided to go to film school for the last 3 years of my education where I recently graduated from.

Plan for next 365 days

I finished school this year and I knew I didn't want to go straight to University and instead wanted to travel around the world to experience different cultures to what I have experienced so far. I'm currently working in the UK, to save up money to spend the months of May and June 2024 in Japan, somewhere I've wanted to visit for the past 4 years. It's a place that I've always found very interesting, from the Language, to the big cities, like Tokyo and Sapporo, to the country sides like Nikko, Nara and Hakone. People have told me its a very beautiful country and the local people are very welcoming and kind.

I'm very excited for the this year and can't to visit new places, meet new people and to create ever lasting memories.

Being fluent in both English and Portuguese, I'd be happy to teach them to whoever is interested in learning. I'm more then happy to share my knowledge to allow people to have a better understanding of my culture. And likewise, I'm always interested in learning about other peoples languages and cultures, so I'd really love to have lessons regarding that. Here's a list of languages I'd love to learn how to speak and understand: Japanese, German, French and Italian

I'm quite strong, so any help related to physical labour I do well in.

Being tall, it's easier for me to reach higher places.

I am able to cook.

This year I graduated from film school, meaning I am a video technician, so if you need videos or photos for any project, I'm very capable in helping.

My parents and friends of parents have told me I'm good with kids.
