We're currently on our adult gap year, exploring the world, meeting new people and learning about different cultures and communities. We love being outdoors and connecting with new people.

Description

We’re Joey and Jo, a friendly, easy-going couple from the UK currently on our “adult gap year”, travelling, learning and trying to see the world a little differently.

We’ve been travelling together since November 2025, and while it has been an incredible experience moving from place to place, we’d love to spend longer in one location, get stuck into something meaningful, meet new people and feel part of a community rather than just passing through.

Joey is a creative storyteller with over 12 years’ experience in video, photography, social media, writing and digital communications. Back home in Birmingham, he works in local government communications, helping tell stories about people, places and positive change across the West Midlands. He’s also naturally hands-on and has worked across retail, admin, social care, banking, universities and communications, so he is very used to turning his hand to different tasks.

Jo has experience in communications, marketing, copywriting, social media, admin, hospitality, housekeeping and customer service. She is practical, friendly, organised and always willing to learn. She grew up sailing every weekend with her family, competing and coaching dinghy sailors, and loves being outdoors, whether that’s hiking, kayaking, swimming or getting involved in a team activity. She is also learning Spanish and would love the chance to practise more.

Together, we’re independent, respectful and reliable travellers. We’re happy helping with creative projects, social media, tourism, hospitality, housekeeping, general day-to-day tasks, outdoor work, community projects and anything where a positive attitude is useful.

We’re also very used to living respectfully in shared spaces. Joey rents out rooms in his house back home, so we both understand the importance of being considerate of other people’s routines, keeping shared areas clean, communicating properly and helping make a home feel comfortable for everyone.

We love meeting people, hearing their stories and getting involved in the places we visit. We’re not afraid of hard work, but we also bring a lot of warmth, creativity and curiosity with us. We’d love the chance to contribute to your project, learn from you and hopefully leave a positive little mark along the way.

Skills we can offer:

Video and photography
We can help capture high-quality photos and videos for hostels, guesthouses, cafés, farms, tourism projects, charities, small businesses and community projects.

Social media and storytelling
We can help create engaging content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or websites, including reels, captions, short-form video ideas, photo stories and general content planning.

Marketing and communications
We both have experience in communications and marketing, so we can help with writing, proofreading, promotion, simple campaigns, online listings, guest information and making projects feel more polished and welcoming.

Hospitality and customer service
Jo has experience in bar work, waiting, housekeeping and customer service. Joey has worked in retail, social care, banking, universities and local government, so we’re both confident speaking to people, helping guests and representing a place well.

Admin and organisation
We can help with emails, bookings, guest information, basic spreadsheets, planning, organising spaces, updating listings and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Housekeeping and shared spaces
We’re clean, respectful and considerate. We’re happy helping with housekeeping, changeovers, cleaning shared areas, laundry and general day-to-day tasks.

Outdoor and practical work
We’re happy to get stuck in with practical jobs, gardening, outdoor tasks, basic maintenance support, animal care, painting, tidying, lifting, carrying and helping wherever needed.

Sailing and water-based experience
Jo grew up sailing, competing and coaching dinghy sailors, with some experience on small yachts. She is confident around water and loves kayaking, swimming and outdoor activities.

Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Most importantly, we’re friendly, reliable, independent and happy to try. We don’t pretend to know everything, but we’ll always approach tasks with care, curiosity and a willingness to get involved.
