Hello! I'm Jennifer. I'm new to Workaway. I joined to be able to offer help, learn new skills, and continue to experience and learn from other people and cultures - something I absolutely love.

I'm originally from the U.S.A. I have worked as an English teacher for the past 19 years. I started off as a volunteer teaching immigrants and refugees in Philadelphia (where I'm from). From there I taught in several other countries at schools and community programs, and later moved my teaching online so that I could travel long-term. I met amazing people and had truly incredible experiences. Now I would like to settle down and live a very different kind of life: in nature or closer to nature and either create or become part of organizations that serve the local community. Before settling down, however, I would like to learn other skills, especially related to permaculture, construction, and animal care.

Aside from being a teacher, I’m also an author/illustrator. I love writing and making art, and I have worked in these mediums: drawing, furniture painting, glass mosaics, and jewelry-making. But my favorite kind of art to practice is the one mentioned in this quote: “It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look... To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.”

I love children, nature, and animals. I’ve never had a pet, but during the pandemic I lived with a friend who had four cats, and one of them (Flaco 😊) changed my life forever. Some of my other interests include reading, playing the piano, spirituality, mental health, and vegan cooking/baking.

What makes me happiest is connecting with others: people, animals, and nature. I'm super excited to participate in Workaway, and can’t wait to meet my hostesses, hosts and fellow workawayers! 😊

I'm kind, patient, hard-working, organized, enthusiastic, appreciative, have worked with people from all over the world and have a tremendous desire to learn.

I'm artistic, I write, and I designed my own website. I am happy to share those skills. I also love children. And I'm happy to help anyone who wants to practice conversational English.
