Hello!

I'm Joe, a 27 year old guy from the UK. I've been travelling and working in Japan for 6 months now, enjoying meeting new people and learning about Japanese culture.

I've previously lived in the US (6 years) and France (6 months), so I am passionate about language learning and cultural exchange. I'm excited by the prospect of learning Japanese and being able to experience rural and urban Japan.

I'm also an outdoor enthusiast - I enjoy hiking, rockclimbing, paddleboarding, and snowboarding! I spent 3 months this past winter working in Nagano prefecture at Madarao ski resort.

I like to cook and frequently experiment with different recipes and cooking methods, and one of my favourite things to do is share food and break bread with people.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am a scientist by trade, with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and having most recently worked in pharmaceutical research and environmental analysis.

I spent 3 months working in hospitality at a chalet in Madarao ski resort this past winter. I have experience in housekeeping and driving in Japan, frequently running tours to see the snow monkeys!

I have experience with garden maintenance - cutting grass, weeding, pruning, and fruit picking - and I also enjoy construction/DIY work. Most recently I've assisted in the restoration an old farmhouse in rural France (you can see me on the roof before it was tiled in one of my photos!) which involved wall building, cement mixing, roofing, and usage of tools. I have previously volunteered with an outdoor leadership program, leading backpacking expeditions for university students.

I'm highly capable in household maintenance like cooking and cleaning, and I like to do basic cleaning each morning to help clear the mind and start each day in the best way possible.

I'm competent with computer and technical work, and I do have a manual driving license (British) with an international permit.

I am keen to bring what I know to Japan and exchange knowledge. I'm a quick learner and will take new challenges and learning opportunities head on.
