Hi, my name is Iris, I'm 31 years old and I work in film production in Berlin.
Whenever I get the chance between projects, I love to travel and discover the many parts of Europe that I haven't seen yet. With workaway I can combine that with meeting new and interesting people! And also, doing any kind of work that does not involve sitting in front of a computer all day is such a nice change :)
Currently I'm planning to escape from the big city for some weeks in October, maybe into November.

My mother is a gardener and I grew up on a sort of small farm in a suburb of Munich. Now I live in Berlin and even though I like the city, I do often miss the outdoors and working with my hands.
I disovered workaway in 2021 and just fell in love with this way of travelling! This year, I am hoping to stay at some more amazing places, learn new skills and meet new people.

Other than German, I speak English and French (both more or less fluently, but my English is better) and would love to get some practice in either language.

I love being around lots of people (and dogs, preferably 😄) and the exchange of different cultures, languages and ways of life that comes with that.
This is also why I mostly look for places that can accommodate more than one volunteer. So if you are in need of many helping hands this fall and are looking to have two or even more helpers, I'd love to join!

I taught German for a year as a Teaching Assistant in the US, so I would be happy to help out anyone who wants to start learning or practice German! I hope that I will be able to brush up on my French, which I studied in university but have somewhat neglected since then. I also speak a little bit of Spanish and would love an opportunity to practice that. And of course, any opportunity to speak English is always welcome!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

My office job unfortunately doesn't offer many opportunities for working with your hands, but I have occasionally done the follwing things: helping out at a small farm during harvest, picking apples, pruning trees and hedges, I worked at a farmer's market, tried my hand at painting/restoring old furniture, as well as general maintenance around the garden. Last spring, my roommate and I redid the floor in our apartment in Berlin, so I do have some experience with that. And I am really good at stacking fire wood!

With workaway, I've also helped with various tasks like renovating an old house (which for me meant a lot of sanding and painting as well as measuring and cutting out plaster board), gardening, harvesting olives, laying tiles for a terrace, taking care of animals (donkeys ❤️) and I even got the chance to try welding!

I enjoy cooking very much, especially for and/or with other people. I lived with four girls from India for a year during college and can make really good curries :)

In general, I am a fast learner and don't mind getting my hands dirty or doing work that is physically demanding; in fact those can be very satisfying tasks in my experience!

I am a huge dog person, but any other type of animal is awesome as well!

During my free time, I love to go hiking but I also very much enjoy playing board or card games!
